Would you stay downtown?

I decided to read some reviews of downtown casinos (binions, main st.,) and the FSE...and honestly why would anyone in their right mind go there? The entire place seems like a dirty hell hole even some locals avoid it. would you guys consider going there? I just thought it was interesting reading about the terrible condition in downtown and yet it is still considered an alternative option to the strip. Yuck.

So you decided that downtown is a hell hole and not worth a visit because some people on the Internet said so? Interesting.

Because its fun. My mom & I spent 2 nights there, and didn't feel like we were in a dirty hell, and we werent bored at all. We had 2 & 1/2 FULL days there that included the Zipline (twice for me), going to the Neon Museum, nice cocktail hour at El Cortez w/ piano music & BOGO martinis, nice dinner at the Flame, steak buffet at the Fremont, morning daiquiri's at Mermaids, awesome cupcakes at Gigi's cupcakes, saw a TON of Elvises (it was the eve of 'Elvis weekend'), saw a free Elvis show at GN, and lots if late night gambling.

More reasonable priced foods, less lines, closer proximity to hotels, casinos, and the street. Easier to move around to other properties for gambling. Just a few more reasons I love this area.

Also there was a couple more restaurants we wanted to try, but ran out of time.

I guess it depends on how you look at it. If you can appreciate an older side of Vegas or not.

btw, I know lots of locals, and none of them avoid downtown Fremont area.

Fiveiron,

That's right lots of people had very negative opinions about downtown casinos. Some

even supplied pictures of roaches and such. Very convincing, wouldn't u say?

bsOdxi, by all means please stay out of downtown Las Vegas. That way the rest of us will be able to enjoy it. Hate to disappoint you, but we just spent five nights downtown at the Fremont Hotel, and didn't see any "roaches and such". Great food options, good gambling, nice inexpensive hotels, yes by all means stay away and leave it for the rest of us to enjoy.

You can find many people who don't like the strip with photos to back it up as well. If you think the strip doesn't have roaches don't walk into Ballys. As well there are locals who avoid the strip more than downtown.

I love the strip & downtown and all points in between. It's my belief you need to experience the place before making judgements.

Dirty hell hole it is not!! Is it not possible for you to form your own opinion? If we all based our decisions on other peoples say so then they might as well close Vegas as everything will be shut! You seriously think roaches only frequent downtown? Bedbugs at the Wynn anyone??

Dont remember in recent times anyone being stabbed or shot on Fremont!!!

Go see and experience for yourself and then come back and tell us your opinions then.

I disagree with everything the OP said. I love downtown, and we try to arrive in LV on Fridays to spend the weekend downtown before moving to the strip on Sundays for the rest of our stay. I think the OP needs to experience downtown (try Halloween or St. Patrick's Day as we did on our last 2 trips) to understand why so many of us love it!!

Until last year my 7 trips to Vegas was all on the Strip, last year we decided to try 2 nights DT staying at Golden Nugget. We loved it, it's great to have all the hotels so close, food and drinks is lot cheaper. I def wouldn't say its a hell hole maybe not so shiny and new but that's why it's old Vegas. Can't say I would spend the whole trip DT but would def do a couple of days. Enjoy your upcoming trip :)

We try and arrive on a thursday or Friday, take advantage of the cheap room rates, and then move to the strip on sunday, just like reader pat, the entertainment is great, plenty of places to eat and drink. We like downtown.
