First time in Vegas - Bellagio or Venetian?

Husband and I (baby boomers) have to fly from the East Coast into Vegas for business just over the border in Utah and considered spending three nights in Vegas afterwards. Venetian or Bellagio? We are not gamblers (although I understand that there is a great deal to do besides gambling), have never really had a strong interest in going to Vegas, but since we have to be there anyway, we thought we should experience it at least once. (Am not opposed to Vegas for those who love it; it's just that we have some other places on our bucket list we want to travel to first.) Who knows - maybe we will love it and want to return...

Thanks for any suggestions you may have.

What type of entertainment are you looking for in Las Vegas besides looking for a hotel?

Either... Venetian is the second largest hotel in the world, Bellagio is the 11th largest.

They hold more guests then St. George, Utah has people.... it can take upwards of an hour to check in on weekends at either.

The best line that could be applied to either hotel came from the movie "Casino" where "Frank Rosenthal" says "In the old days dealers knew your name... what you drank, now it's like checking into an airport, and if you order room service your lucky to get it by Thursday."

That said... first time in Vegas for the non gambler... consider Downtown (Golden Nugget) or Summerlin (Red Rock Station) or Henderson part of the strip (M Resort) in addition to considering cliche Vegas establishments... especially if you have a car.

I personally think that a non-gambler is better off on the strip. Just walking through the various hotels will take up a lot of time.

See some of the pinned threads at the top for things to do.

We have stayed at Bellagio and Venetian and prefer the Venetian. For the money the rooms are larger and nicer to me.

But there is something to be said for a fountain view room at the Bellagio. I don't think you would regret either choice.

Bellagio is old school whimsical, catering to the 50+. Beautiful. They just redid the rooms with flat screens and a more contemporary feel. Venetian (and I would recommend Palazzo it's sister wing) is contemporary. Location is great as well. No fountains, but large rooms with sunken living rooms and couches with a seperate tv. Closer to the strip for walking around than Bellagio and larger accomadations.

Either one is great but I like the Bellagio Fountain view rooms. Watching the fountains is so nice. Many things to see and do in Vegas. Check out the shows on-line at Vegas.com. Great Auto Collection at the Quad. have fun

I definitely recommend that you stay on the strip for your first visit. Between seeing the hotels and their attractions, meals, shows, etc., you will find plenty to occupy your time without gambling. You have picked two wonderful properties. I absolutely loved my stay at the Venetian, and I would stay there again in a heartbeat if it fits my budget. However, my dream is to someday stay in a fountain view room at the Bellagio. I give Bellagio the slight edge on location, since it is what I consider to be the center of the strip. However, if you decide on the Venetian, it's also a good location, although slightly more north.
