Parking on Fremont Street?

Parking on Fremont Street?

We are debating renting a car during our first trip to Vegas in June, in order to save on some cab fare. Is it better to cab to Fremont Street or are there good, safe places to park?

Actually, riding the Deuce is probably your best option. I rented a car once in Las Vegas, and will never do it again - I rarely used it, and the traffic was terribly congested when I was there. Between all of the public transportation options, you should be able to get everywhere without renting a vehicle.

Take your car, there are plenty of safe places to valet park and or free garages. Why would you Not take your car.

You can park at just about any hotel/casino. If you take the highway downtown, Fremont or Binions would be the easiest to assess. Surface streets, look at the Golden Nugget, D, or 4 Queens. I suggest using the Valet. It is free, just tip a couple bucks when you pick up your car.

Sheree,

Do not attempt to park in the neighborhoods around Fremont!!! Just go to any of the hotels and valet your car for FREE. Tip them a couple bucks and you're golden. Vegrunner is right when it comes to traffic, however, spend a day or two looking at maps of Vegas so you can avoid the congestion by going down side streets (ie. Koval Ln. and Paradise Rd.). I personally would never go to Vegas without renting a car. Only exceptions are for short stays and first timers. Hope that helps. Take care and God bless!!!

You absolutely do not want to be drinking and driving. For that reason alone, many folks, me included, will cab it around Vegas. But if that's not an issue, renting a car can be very convenient. Cab fare from the strip to downtown and back will be $50-60 round trip with tips. A car is much cheaper. Parking is not a problem, though its the one place where it might cost you a few bucks. When we have a car, we usually end up going to some outlying areas we wouldn't if we had to pay for cabs.

Thank you everyone for your advice! And yes, drinking and driving is something that definitely won't be happening... so that's an important point to consider!

I always rent a car in Vegas. I like the flexibility and its usually cheap. Right now I've got a rental reserved for one week and it's less than $150 all in. But, as Wheatie said, no drinking/driving. Last time we drove downtown (April 20) and parked in Main St Station's garage. It was easy in/easy out. Once the drinking hours arrive, the car is parked and we travel on our bus passes.

When I was a tourist, when I flew to Vegas, I would rarely rent a car. Public transport is so good in Vegas, and relatively cheap. I just had no need for a car.

And although I rarely drink, if I was using cabs, it was nice to have the option to drink. Going to a show or a concert, if I wanted a drink or three, no worry, the cab driver was our "designated driver."
