Aladdin in July Suggestions?

My husband and I will be in LV with another couple in July. We got the $89/night at the Aladdin. Our friend can't walk too much so I was looking for suggestions of things to see close by or any info if the monorail is near by? How is the pool at the Aladdin? We have tickets for KA at the MGM, any suggestions on where to eat near by that is reasonably priced? We're planning to enter one of the Aladdin Texas Hold'Em tournament, any tips or suggestions? They're arriving on Monday morning and we're arriving Monday night, is there a shuttle from airport to the hotel or is it better to get a cab? Any help is greatly appreciated.

We just stayed there over memorial day. while I used to be a huge fan of the Aladdin. this will be our last stay there.

the pool is really bad. just a concrete slab. with 2 square pools. the pools are raised up a few steps. there are only a few seats around the pool. most seats are between the pools. like sitting out on a tennis court. at noon they have some band start playing. imagine your kids garage band playing. hurts my ears

you can see my write up here

wow, gregdove, I read your TR and info about Aladdin. I wished I would have read it before I made the reservations. I guess I could probably cancel since I made it directly with the hotel. Any suggestions for another good hotel in the middle of the strip with rooms under $100/night? a nice pool area is important since our friend just had surgery and can't walk too much.

yea, we did aladdin because of the cheep price. we usually go in the winter to the aladdin. Mandalay Bay in the summer, for the pool. but because of the price we could not pass it up.

not really sure where I would suggest. the pool is the real bad part of the Aladdin. location is good. I think Flamingo has a good pool. from what I hear on this site. never stayed there.

as for the monorail, I do not think it can really be used. I used to take it from Ballys to MGM. when that was the only place it would go. for me it does not seem to go many places. maybe someone who uses it can comment. or maybe you could post a queston just for that.

but to get there, I think the ballys would be the closest place. It would be maybe a 20 min walk. you would go to the paris, through to ballys, down to the ballys shopping area, then out to the monorail.

if you have your hearts set on the Aladdin Texas Hold'Em tournament, you might want to just stay there. You can call the hotel, but I saw some poker in just a roped off area. not really in its own room. it is where the old sportsbook was. at least right by it. not a nice seperate room like other casinos. but you could call them.

here you can see the pool.

most of the seating is down the stairs. if you zoom around you can see the stairs.

Thank you so much gregdove. That's a Kick A** website!!! Very informative. Do you know anything about the airport shuttle? Is it good or is it better to take a cab?

not really.

I always take a cab. I think from Aladdin to the airport was 12.00.

mjoe.....I stayed at Aladdin mid April with my sister and we LOVED it!! Our room was very nice and clean. Aladdin is a great choice for your friend. It isn't so huge that getting around is a problem. When we were there the construction was really a non-issue. We never heard any noise in our room and they have turned the music volume up in the casino so that any construction noise there is hardly noticeable. For reasonable priced eats you simply cannot beat the $18.88 lunch special at Commander's Palace at Aladdin. I can't speak for the pool there. I don't do pools generally speaking. It is better to take a taxi in my opinion. We did the shuttle thing one time and never again. For the price of 2 round trips on the shuttle you can just about pay for the taxi rides and won't waste any of your precious vacation time on a shuttle. Have fun!!

I thought Aladdin was great when I stayed there early in May.

In response to a few specifics of Greg's review-

We had no problems with the construction except that the poker "room" is temporarily along a wall, next to the PF Chang's. I miss their old poker room which was separated from the rest of the casino.

I don't use hotel pools, so that never matters to me.

Spice Market Buffet is a terrible value, but I learned that when I was staying elsewhere. It was bad enough I don't intend to ever go back for lunch or dinner again. I may try breakfast some day if i get a 2-4-1 coupon with a stay package or something.

Zanzibar is ok for a 24 hour cafe. I don't tend to expect much from them but I prefer the one at Paris, which is just a short walk away.

Things we liked:

The room was clean & nice, especially the large bathroom which included a soaking tub.

The Coffee Bean in the Dessert Passage area offers fast & free wifi!

The DP shopping is good since it includes regular kinds of stores rather then only high-end shops.

The Commander's Palace lunch special is especially great when you only have to wander up to your room to sleep off the $.25 martinis!

The valet area was super close to the elevator to our room so coming and going was a breeze, though the valets were a bit slow.

We had a south strip view which was a perfect vantage point from which to watch the Boardwalk implosion.

The Fab Four show at the Aladdin theater was very good. You can get 1/2 price tickets through the 1/2 price ticket places.

The free entertainment on the stage in the shopping area near the theater entrance was a fun diversion too.

I liked it there and would definitely stay there again.

BigVegasFan

as you can see from my review, i did not like the Spice Market Buffet either.

why is it ranked so good? does not make sense? we had 2-4-1 so we did breakfast the last day. grabbed a lot of pastries and fruit for the plane and airport. but the Bellagio buffet blows it away! and what is not letting hotel guests get their own line.

I though the poker room was that area roped off. right in front of the bathrooms. yipee!

the rooms are nice. big bathrooms. but the casino is a real dump. just not nice.

i think next time we will hit somewhere with a better pool. not the Bay. but maybe MGM, mirage.

Hey Greg- yep, we definitely agree on Spice Market. It was a huge disappoinment to find it to be so average, if that, after reading all the hype. Bellagio is definitely better, so are Wynn (my fav!) and Paris. As for line passes, I don't really expect them at every buffet since I've seen other buffets, like Paris, where passes weren't available for hotel guests.

And we're talking about the same poker "room." It's roped off along the wall near both PF Chang's & the bathrooms. It's also unfortunately way too close to the "life-sized" Wheel of Fortune. I'm glad this is just temportay. I'll be interested to see where the room winds up once the construction is done.
