Trip to strip during airport layover?

We have a layover in Vegas during September. We arrive at 12:55 and fly out again at 3:55. Is it insane to think we can zip to the strip for an hour on the strip or is that nuts? I just can't resist the lure of the ding, ding, ding, ding... :)

If it's doable, what should we do, taxi, monorail?

Thanks!

It's doable. MGM is only 10 minutes from the airport by cab. Figure fare of $12.

BTW: You do know that there are slot machines in the airport?

No way would I try that! You never know how busy security may be. There are slots in the airport, lol!

I wouldn't do it for the simple reason of having to pass through security when you come back. If you need to get your fix of "ding, ding, ding" just play a slot at the airport.

I would. Taxi for sure. Pick your favorite casino close to the airport. I would head to Cosmopolitan.

We aren't big gamblers, per se, we just love Vegas and the atmosphere. I'm concerned about security, too, which is why I asked. The one time I want a long layover, dang it!

Maybe we'll stick to the airport.

Thanks for the opinions!

You may purchase a day pass.....around $27, I think, at one of the Club At LAS lounges for snacks, drinks, Internet....no bathrooms or showers.....We use the one at "D" Gates.

Speaking of D Gates, with the shops, bars, restaurants, and slots, D Gates pretty much offers a casino-like environment, without the rooms upstairs.

Depending on where you are seated on the plane and what gate is used you may not get to the taxi until 1:15 and there may be line there. I would want to be headed back to the airport by 2:00. Even with perfect traffic conditions it is a good 10 minutes each way. So you are probably looking at about 20 minutes in a casino. Will you also be carting around luggage or carry-on's? I would pass on it. I suppose you could have the taxi just drive you up the Strip and then straight back to the airport, but I'm not sure that will scratch your "ding, ding, ding itch."

Yeah, it is sounding somewhat unrealistic. I told my husband he can just continue on to San Fran without me (we connect in Vegas both ways). Ha! I will check out the "D" gates.

I wouldn't try it just play the slots and video poker in the airport. Casinos are way to big to have only less than an hour to run in one and back out.
