Anyone go without coupons,comps,freebies?

Being very new to this forum and our first trip since 2002 to Las Vegas, I'd like to ask if anyone travels without all of these freebies? I don't have the slightest idea how to even find them and am wondering if its even worth it? At home or on vacation, we pay for food, drinks, entertainment at the going rate. Are we crazy not to research all these discounts?

Yes.

Yes.

Maybe. Depends on your budget.

If you plan just around food, shows, etc that you're able to find coupons for you'll end up missing out on many other great choices.

But on the other hand if a coupon lets you do something that you otherwise wouldn't be able to, then it's worth it.

Davenj that is an excellent response. I plan to have my daily limit for gambling, spend days at the pool, enjoy dining and drinking and any shows that strike our fancy, and we can afford it. So I don't feel foolish for not seeking out these deals. I can instead enjoy this evening out on our back deck in vancouver with the best weather we've had so far this year!!! I have to say that I've been jealous of the heat we've been hearing about in vegas right now.

We don't gamble enough to earn free rooms, free meals, etc. The best we ever get is an occassional discount on a room. We do seek coupons for places we might visit through restaurant.com, ACG, Groupon, etc.

We will use an occasional restaurant.com certificate or a groupon for a dinner. But most of the really nice restaurants we dine at don't have them. The rest of the time we have our favorite places we prefer to frequent, which are often more reasonably priced than restaurants in Strip hotels, so we don't need coupons.

Let me make this perfectly clear: We would much rather choose our dining based on what we want rather than what coupons or deals are available.

I read some Trip Reports, and while the posters are usually pleased, you can see that their choices were determined in advance by what coupons are available. That's not what I want to do in Vegas.

For a 1st time visitor, and you pretty much are, I recommend keeping coupons to a minimum. This will allow you to be more spontaneous and make some discoveries on your own.

We will use a Travelzoo deal, Groupon, or restaurant.com GC for restaurants or shows we would be going to anyway. But other than that, we pay for everything since we aren't gamblers and thus receive no comps. If we get a few drinks while at the occasional slot machine, we're happy.

That being said, there's no reason NOT to try and save a few bucks when you can as there are some good deals to be had. But we don't plan our trip around them.

Its not worth trying to find them. Simply go to the hotel you'd like to stay;s website and click on the specials link. Book your room. When you arrive, and as you centure around town get the players cards for each. Use when you play. When you return you will get mail offers and such for another visit. have a great time!

We have never used any of these vouchers and myvegas things ... Personally I have little 'free' time and the last thing I would ever want to do is have to then search around to save a few dollars or have to sign up to Facebook to spend hrs to again save what is not really that much money ... Depends what value you place on your 'free' time though I guess.

I have visited Vegas with and without coupons. I like to holiday a lot - so try and save money to allow me to travel more frequently. I rarely pay full price anywhere if I can help it - but I don't spend a huge amount of time on it.

We always buy the Las Vegas Advisor and American Casino Guides each year - the palms coupon pays for LVA, and the freeplay coupons usually pay for ACG, so anything else is a bonus. You don't need to go hunting for these - they're easy to find and purchase.

I don't then go off hunting for much else, unless I see an interesteing offer pop up for somewhere I like.

Saying that - I don't then plan my trip around the coupons (although I have been known to plan around happy hours!). As I say, they have paid for themselves by using a small number of the coupons. If I'm then somewhere that I have a coupon for I'll use it. Also we have now been to Vegas so many times, we try and find something new every trip - so the coupons sometimes "suggest" an itinerary by looking to see what coupons we have for somewhere we haven't been before.

We don't gamble enough to get comps, although I do get some decent room offers.

We do use Groupon, ACG, Travelzoo, etc. Now that we've been to Vegas a few times I find we use fewer coupons and vouchers than when we first started going. We know the places we like and most of them don't have coupons of any sort. Some of the restaurants that we initially went because of discounts are now on our list of favourite places and we visit them without coupons, so the discounts have been a good way to get us in the door the first time.
