shopping

we will be in vegas for a week. we will be staying at the mirage for a wedding. we are not gamblers but i like to shop. we will of course do all the touristy things but i also want to go shopping were the locals shop. i dont want the tourist malls and the high prices. what are the names of shopping malls outside of the main tourist strip and are there buses that would get me there? or would taxis be cheaper

If you're looking for a regular mall rather than outlets, then Fashion Show Mall right on the Strip is comfortably the best in Vegas with the best selection of stores and prices that aren't any higher to malls in outlying neighborhoods.

Unless there's a store that's only at one of the other malls that you simply have to visit, If you won't have a car, I wouldn't recommend taking the time and expense to visit using public transportation or cabs. You can see a listing of malls here and then google them to see the store listings on their websites.

thats great thanks for that. ok let me honest with you. i am a big girl so probably wont be buying many clothes, so clothes shopping is not for me, dont get me wrong i love fashion, but its hard when you are on the bigger size. the main thing i will be shopping for is Halloween decoartions. i am a halloween nut and living in australia we dont get a lot of things to buy. so i will be buying up big on halloween things. so am looking for your .......well we call them discount stores or dollar shops.......or any other place i can find things for halloween. we will be there from the 16th october till the 23rd october and then flying to SF and travelling down the coast to LA, so on the 31st October will be somewhere in between SF and LA.

I would suggest, besides FSM, the Galleria Mall on Sunset (SDX and then 117? buses, check that on rtcsnv.com/transit). Boulevard Mall (possibly 203 from along side FSM or Treasure Island (check on google maps or Street View for location of bus stop (blue bus symbol as you zoom in. Cab might be better for this short trip).

You have a Walgreens store just across and under the bridge by Treasure Island. And any CVS or ABC store (one in FSM) on the Strip as you explore.

If you are looking for Halloween decorations, I would suggest going to Party City. They always have lots of wonderful things, costumes, etc. There is one just off of Tropicana on South Maryland Parkway in the Mission Center. (There is also a TJ Maxx and a Toys R Us there also!)

There will be plenty of Halloween specific stores at that time. If you are looking for clothes in the outlet mall at Warm Springs and Las Vegas Blvd there are a few plus size stores Dress Barn is one of them.
