Rental a cab from avis to Grand canyon. advice pleas

Hey. we intend to hire us and a Ford Mustang cab and drive to Grand Canyon West next mnd.vi come from Norway so we are used to bad roads. Is there a problem with a rental car and drive there?? We will not drive a bus or helicopter. We will experience the hoover dam and the Grand Canyon. What do you experter say? Thinking most of the car rental and damage to the car show at the Grand canyon roads are so bad.

I have never heard of canyon roads being bad, well you can not actually drive down into the canyon you can take a donky or hike if you are going all the way to the river, someone will correct me I am sure if I am wrong

"We will experience the hoover dam and the Grand Canyon."

Unfortunately you won't be experiencing the Grand Canyon.

FWIW, you will be renting a rental car, not a cab.

I cannot tell you about driving to the Grand Canyon but I have rented a car an drove to the Hoover Dam. The road there is almost all highway & in excellent condition. The road signs are frequent and clear so you shouldn't lose your way. While you are at the Hoover Dam be sure & drive to the new Tillman bridge right near by. Go early it is really, really hot outside. Also if you go early you increase you chances of getting on one of the full tours of the Dam.

If you all like nature you might consider seeing the Valley of Fire - it's beautiful.

Have a great trip! & Welcome to the USA

You will not damage your rental car due to bad roads to the Canyon. It is highway all the way. I do suggest you drive to the South Rim of the grand canyon national park, as that is the true Grand Canyon you've seen in movies and pictures. Please look into that. But to answer your question the car will not get damaged on this drive.

The South Rim, which is the National Park has great roads.

The West Rim, which is a native american reservation, has a reputation for terrible roads and you may find youself in trouble with the rental car company. The West Rim is also something of a tourist trap, with high prices and views that don't match the national park.

The rental companies do have a rule about going off road, but we have done it with no problem. If you only have time for the West Rim, I say go ahead and do it. As others have mentioned, that view of the canyon is not the very best place to see it from, but is better than nothing IMHO.

You are coming half way around the world. See the real Grand Canyon at the National Park.

The views at Grand Canyon West pale in comparison to the views at the National Park. The canyon is not as wide, deep, or colorful.

All the roads to the National Park are paved.

The road to GCW supposedly still has about 9 or 10 miles to go until its fully paved.Supposed to be done next year. If you go there bring a ton of cash. Its about $100 per person to walk the Skywalk after all the fees are paid. The National Park is $25 per carload good for 7 days.

" i mean convertible.so i want to drive with a open roof"

You might want to bear in mind just how scorching hot it is in the summertime. Riding with an open roof may not be much fun in August!
