First Time In Vegas August Trip Report!

Background on us, E & A, busy married couple with young family, taking our first trip to Las Vegas, travelling without our children to celebrate E’s 40th birthday. Will post as replies:

Day One:

Flew Southwest Airlines Detroit to Las Vegas. Purchased Early bird and when we saw we had got A20 and A21 it was well worth the money. As first timers to Vegas we had read that sitting at the front on the right side gave the best approaching views. We weren’t disappointed! Great flight, smoother than we had anticipated, the stewardess doing the announcements should be in stand up! Hilarious!

Arrived in Vegas, exited airport and found our Showtime Shuttle. Could not fault the shuttle, friendly driver and we were at The Bellagio in about 20 minutes.

It was 2pm, no line at check in. A tried the $20 trick, asking if any complimentary upgrades were available as we were there to celebrate E’s 40th birthday. The lady got on the phone and found us a Fountain view room on the 8th floor. Perfect!

Went up to our room, it was clean, awesome view of the strip & E loved the bathroom. Left the luggage and went down to The Petrossian where we had a reservation for Afternoon Tea. We had hoped to get this as a reward but sadly it expired before we travelled. E is English and loves Afternoon Tea so we wanted to experience this anyway. Great decision as it was fantastic! You get to choose your tea and 4 sandwiches from the menu. They give you two scones, cream, jam and lemon curd and a variety of pastries. This was just what we needed to revive us after travelling! Walked to the MLife booth got our cards and showed our MyVegas redemption codes to get our Bellagio lunch buffet coupons. Took a few minutes, the MLife guy was very helpful.

We had The Big Bus Tour night tour booked for 7pm. The bus departs from Excalibur so we took the monorail to Monte Carlo and walked from there. Excellent tour, highly recommend (although the tour guides jokes ran a little thin after the first 30 minutes…) The guided tour takes you from the Las Vegas sign down to Fremont Street, where you have an hour before bringing you back. We were actually surprised at how much we enjoyed old Las Vegas and wish we could have had more than an hour there. Played some slots at Binions whilst sipping on $2 Coronas! E won $31.00

Back to Excalibur. E had a coupon for a drink at Ri Rar Irish pub at Mandalay Place. We popped into the Guinness store next door for a quick look at all the merchandise. (We are big Guinness fans!) Ri Ra was just what the doctor ordered, live music and great food. E had fish and chips and A had a Guinness burger. Delicious!

We had a look at Luxor on the way out and walked back up the strip to Bellagio. Realized it was past 3am and we were asleep on our feet by the time we got to our room. Great first day!

Day Two:

Woke up and ordered room service mentioning today was E’s 40th. When breakfast arrived the chef had sent up a plate of chocolate strawberries for her. Food was top notch.

Walked across to Paris, E had a two for one coupon to go up the Eiffel Tour. Neither of us like heights but are glad we did it. Amazing view of the entire strip from the top! Evevator operator Vearn was an encyclopedia of knowlegde! We learnt more from talking to him than reading the numerous guide books before our vacation! He is a credit to the hotel. Got our total rewards cards and played a bit on the slots whilst drinking Lemon Drop Martini’s. Left about $20 up, not bad for the penny slots! Great drink service at Paris.

Back to Bellagio for lunch. The MyVegas coupons also worked as a line pass so you get in really quickly. Highly recommend this reward. Buffet is very varied and food delicious. We added $10 for the all you can drink Margaritas. Waitress was awesome and even made us one to go!

Walked the strip to look at The Venetian. It looked beautiful but it seemed incredibly busy compared to the other hotels we saw. Not sure we would want to stay there.

That evening we ate at The Bacchanal Buffet at Caesars. Caesars Palace blew us away it’s so opulent. Line up for the Buffet was crazy but tbh we had left it a bit late getting there. We waited an hour and purchased The Buffet of Buffet Pass on our total rewards cards. Bacchanal was worth every penny. We both agreed that it was the best buffet we had ever eaten at. Selection was huge and desserts delicious. Best Macarons in Vegas!

Walked to Walgreens for some water and souvenirs and back to Bellagio to watch the Fountains from our room. Whilst we were out a box of Chocolates and a birthday card had been put in our room from The Bellagio for E, we thought this was such a nice touch!

Day Three:

Over to Paris for Breakfast at Marketplace using our BOB pass. By the time we got in they had just switched to lunch. We mentioned we were disappointed to have missed the croissants and our wonderful server left the buffet and got us croissants from a coffee shop! (at no extra charge!) Best thing about Marketplace is the crepe station! We both chose the banana nutella crepes…sooo good, but also sooo large that neither of us could finish them! Back to Paris casino where we played the slots with more lemon drop martinis. Have we mentioned how good the drink service is at Paris?

Afternoon walk along the strip to Mirage where we picked up our MyVegas Beatles Love tickets. Took a little time to find our booking and the cashier was happy that we had brought our redemption print outs to assist him. Next stop Sugar Factory where we used our MyVegas reward for popcorn. The machine wasn’t on but the cashier was super friendly and made some for us with a smile. A had a coupon for the duck keychain with his $30 purchase so we bought some souvenirs and redeemed that too. On to Rhumbar where E had a groupon for two headhunter cocktails. We chose Hurricanes to go, as we had to get back to Bellagio to get changed for our night out.

Back to Mirage for dinner at Cravings. We had purchased a Travelzoo voucher for dinner with unlimited drinks. This also served as a line pass we were pleased to find out. Cravings wasn’t very exciting except for the crab legs. The seafood station steams them for you so you can eat them warm with butter. Unlimited drinks turned out to be just three choices; red wine, white wine or bud light!

Beatles Love blew us away. It was our first Cirque show and we weren’t sure what to expect but we loved it! By the way there are NO bad seats in the theatre.

Played a little slots in Mirage on our way out, then a little more sightseeing. Visited Cabo Wabo but was disappointed with the vibe (or lack of) inside. E remembered she had a free birthday sandwich from Earl of Sandwich so we went to Planet Hollywood and picked that up for the room later. Stopped in at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co to buy some shirts for our children. Back to Bellagio to check in online, watch the fountains and pack for our morning flight. Again thankful for Early Bird as we got A status boarding passes again.

To sum it up we had a wonderful trip. The Bellagio was incredible. Very thankful to MyVegas for the Bellagio lunch, Beatles Love and Sugar Factory items. We also had rewards to Jean Phillipe Patisserie, Monorail and Sugar Factory MGM but we ran out of time. If you have a birthday whilst you are away then sign up for emails from Earl of Sandwich, Border House Grill and Hash House a Go Go - they all sent me birthday deals. Additional thanks to all those on tripadvisor who patiently answered my questions and posted reviews with incredibly helpful information! :)
