My observations on my most recent trip to Vegas

Over the last 16 years I have visited Las Vegas 12 times usually for a 14 night stay. I have just returned from my most recent trip and was shocked at how expensive it has become. Two drinks at Carnival Court in plastic cups $24!! It seems to me know all the cheaper places like Bills gambling hall are gone there is no competition so prices have rocketed. The focus now seems to be on the young hip and trendy crowd with cash to throw around who are willing to pay extortionate prices. It appears gambling has become secondary to night clubs.

Another thing I noticed was there was less porn slappers around but more beggars on the streets.

As much as I love Vegas I don't think I'll be rushing back anytime soon.

You can still gamble and get "free" drinks. I don't go to clubs, but I enjoy nice lounges, nice restaurants, shopping, and a bit of gambling. You can find all of this without need of a car. To me the price is justified because I always have a good time while I'm there.

Perhaps you should look more into staying off strip or downtown. You can visit the strip for a bit but for the most part stick to the area you're staying at. Lots of people don't particularly like the strip yet still love Vegas.

I still love visiting the city but you are obviously right and right. It's definitely changed. Some of the high end hipster stuff is amusing and good cheap deals are rarer but there are still many cool places worth my time and dollar. For now. :/

I don't go to the Mega clubs much anymore but for sure enjoy all the increased high end dinning options. I just focus my funds more on this than planning to gamble as much. I miss some of the good deals but a lot of those places were so run down the good deal was not so much of a deal anymore. The drink prices do stink but that's why you have to low roll the slots a few nights a week and stretch out the time. Redcups are your friend in Vegas.

At the same time, nearly everyone on here recommends places that tends to be pricey. And if people keep going and keep paying those high prices, what's to keep anyone from raising those prices.

You haven't really given us that much to comment on.

"It seems to me know all the cheaper places like Bills gambling hall are gone there is no competition so prices have rocketed." I don't know where you stayed, but maybe it's time to consider other options.

"It appears gambling has become secondary to night clubs."

If gambling is your top priority, why don't you look for hotel/casinos that also emphasize this?

"Perhaps you should look more into staying off strip or downtown. You can visit the strip for a bit but for the most part stick to the area you're staying at. Lots of people don't particularly like the strip yet still love Vegas."

I agree with timeub. Maybe you are ready to expand your Vegas experience beyond the Strip.

The homeless population has exploded on the strip. Many are dangerously mentally ill. The strip seems happy to have them. Nothing has been done about the problem.

I'm happily staying offstrip on my next trip.

Gave up a long time ago on the strip..too crowded, too many strollers, too tight slots, too expensive rooms, dining, etc.....my next trip is at The Orleans for 2 nights (one night free) and 3 nights downtown at The Fremont...no slappers there...where can anyone stay for 33 dollars a night? unless you are getting comps...I like the Orleans buffet and The Fremont buffet, as well as the MSS buffet...

Maybe it's time to explore some of the many superior options for your vacation. The strip doesn't seem built to accommodate a stay like that. It's a get in get out crazy sensory overload. Two weeks and I'd have to see a shrink.

I also get the feeling that as nearly all the big Strip Casinos are owned by one of two corporations there is no longer the need to encourage people to spend time in a particular casino (by offering comps/drinks/cheap food/etc) as there is a 50/50 chance that when you wander off, the next casino you end up in will have the same owner.

I'm just planning my next trip and I don't think I'll spend a significant amount of time "hanging out" on the Strip, I'll just hit'n'run specific bars or restaurants and spend my relaxing/gambling/drinking time off-strip and downtown.

Hi

We changed to off strip hotels a few years back and prefer it. This last trip we had our son and his friend with us who of course wanted to stay right on the strip. So we did, but I felt we spent far more money and got nothing extra back for it. So next visit, on our own, we will be back to off strip and downtown.
