I have just returned from a fabulous stay at the Luxor. I just thought i would do a quick "trip report" of good's and bad's.
Luxor Room - Excellent hotel as before. Room was huge (pyramid room), clean, tidy, lovely big powerful shower etc etc. We were on the 6th floor and the only noise we had was the elevator but a pair of earplugs soon solved that problem. We found a lovely place to eat (Backstage Deli) just outside the entrance to the elevators (elevator 2B if i remember rightly).
Luxor buffet - Excellent breakfast buffet, can't say the same for the dinner buffet. Not much choice at all. We bought a $35 ticket that covered breakfast, lunch and dinner in either Luxor or Excalibur. We had the lunch at Excalibur and would definitely do that again, lovely.
Time of year (5-13th Sept) - Not the best time to go to Vegas we discovered. They consider this to be the "quiet time" so several things were either not open, or were being renovated. i.e. canals inside the Venitian were empty, parts of several casinos were being re-carpeted so this meant huges areas out of service, the weather was not great. We had rain every day except the first two and a HUGE thunderstorm where the roads turned in to rivers, literally. Had to take our shoes off to cross as the water was up to our ankles!
Bellagio fountains - Well, i don't know about anyone else but i think these are just amazing. Enough said.
Food - We did find it much more expensive eating out than our previous trip. One place that i absolutely have to "big up" is Strip Burger. Oh my god, i have never had such a gorgeous burger in all my life. The food was amazing, staff amazing, you could sit outside and watch the world go by. Just brilliant. Would recommend Strip Burger to everyone and anyone.
Cabs from/to airport - We were stupid when we landed. We were tired and wanted to get to the hotel as quickly as possible. We asked how much a cab would be and were told $16. We climbed in and stupidly just said Luxor please. He of course took us under the tunnel!!! Ended up costing us $30 inc tip. On the way back to the airport we were told to ask for Tropicana/Paradise, NOT under the tunnel. If the driver take you under tunnel you can refuse to pay and they can be fined. We will not fall for that one again. Return journey cost us $20 inc tip!!
That is all for now. If anyone wants to know more, just ask :-)
