Shopping Tours

Can anyone shed some light/your experiences on Vegas shopping tours?

Last time I was in Vegas I did a day at the south and a day at the north outlets but not much else.

This time I'm staying at the Wynn which I understand is close to the Fashion Mall. Do these tours cover these malls as big ticket shopping destinations or do they go elsewhere?

Having a look at a shopping tour itinerary I can't determine whether these are all shopping destinations or include pick up points.

- Las Vegas Hotel & Casino (formerly Las Vegas Hilton)*

- Fashion Show Mall

- The Venetian Resort Hotel Casino*

- Miracle Mile Shops at Planet Hollywood

- The NEW Tropicana Las Vegas*

Are the ones listed with * shopping malls also or just pick up/meeting points?

The tours mention a green savings card. What kinds of benefits do these come with?

Are there any good reasons to do a shopping tour or should they be avoided so you can do it all yourself?

Oh and on the point of shopping. I understand ThinkGeek is an online shop only, but is there anything in the Vegas area that stocks similar items? My son is a minecraft fan at the moment and he would love a creeper hoodie (I know they ship to AUS but I have already put through two orders for Christmas and wasn't able to include the hoodie in the order as they are currently out of stock, so would like to find it while we are there).

We will be there in March for 2 weeks.

Again - thank you!

I don't know why you would a tour to go shopping. You mention in another thread that you will have a car?

We wont be getting the car til the end of the trip to drive to LA. We will be in Vegas for 12 days without a car initially.

Wow. That's a long time without a car. Why not get the car a day or three earlier and use it for the shopping and other sites you might want to check out?

Agree, the car is great when you want to go shopping. Just rented for 9 days under $200 total. With free parking everywhere it really comes in handy. No way I'd stay 12 days without a car, I'd go stir crazy. I enjoy exploring too much. There is a lot to see and do around Vegas, not just on the strip.

I'm not one for tours as I don't like to be on someone else's schedule so I'd vote no to the shopping tour. But that's just me.

enjoy

For a trip of this length I too would like to opt for a car however we will be with 6 other people for the first part of the trip for mixed itinerary of work/pleasure.

I'm happy to sway the pleasure part of the itinerary day by day with my to do list, but don't want to go about the trip by planning our transport as a group.

I suggest you rent a convertible for a couple of days, and use that to drive to the leading shopping centers!

Ok transport aside, anyone able to shed light on

- whether those places above marked with an asterix are shopping destinations or a drop off/pick up points?

- what those green discount cards get?

- where to buy minecraft merchandise from?

Thanks!

The marked locations are hotels for pick up/drop off only. There is no way I'd waste my time and money doing a tour of those shopping destinations, as they are all located directly on the strip. You have 12 days...walk/taxi to a different mall for a few days.

I suggest skipping all the tours. Just by walking a little and taking a bus you can do lots and lots of shopping. All the ones below are easy to get to...have fun!

Fashion show mall

Miracle mile in planet Hollywood

Ross (near MGM and Circus Circus)

Town Square (near Mandalay bay)

North Outlet

South outlet

Forum shops at Ceasars Palace

Wynn is literally across the street from Fashion Show Mall. Its a short walk to Forum Shops and Grand Canal Shoppes. Its a slightly longer walk or a cab ride to Miracle Mile Shops and Crystals. You can easily get to either of the outlets and Town Square by cab or the SDX bus. No way would I waste money or be locked into a schedule by a "shopping tour".

Never heard of "green card" savings. If you sign up online you can get a discount card for the outlets. IIRC Macy's at Fashion Show has a discount for non-US visitors.

I've not seen anyplace in Vegas with ThinkGeek type merchandise. My son loves that place and has been to Vegas with us multiple times (he's 26.) If such a store existed I'm confident we would have been there. You could order from them and have it delivered to the hotel while you're there.
