Help me with the slots!?

I will be going back to Vegas for another two week trip at Easter and this time I have decided I'm going to give the slots a try. Usually I just do tables, I have used the video poker and roulette machines so I'm ok with those.

The problem is I've never really played slots before and I'm usually overwhelmed by the choice, so I would like some help please.

I would be interested to get some feedback from avid slot players, hints, tips, good slots, bad slots etc. I know some people will probably say just put your money in and give it go but I like to know what I'm doing and what to do if special features or bonus rounds pop up, as I might miss an opportunity!

I know the odds aren't that great etc and some will say there is no need to think or try and strategise as it's all luck, but indulge me a little please???

Are there any good websites to look at to and learn a little?

There is very little thought to slots. Different machines are set to different payouts. Unlike video poker, though, you have no way to figure this out. So, don't worry about it.

The one thing you can consider is how many coins to play. Some machines, like video poker, pay out at higher odds for max coins. Check the paytable and see if this is the case. If so, play max coins.

The bonus rounds do often involve making choices. But you have no basis for one choice for another, so there's still no thought involved.

As always, wizard of odds has info about slots: http://www.wizardofodds.com

If you are playing one of the video slots, there will normally be two rows of buttons. One is to choose the number of lines and the other to choose your multiplier... So say you are on a nickle machine, and you push 20 lines x 5 coins, you will be playing $5 per spin. Keep that in mind when choosing which machines to play. I always play maximum lines but not always maximum per line.

I know this isn't the answer you want but just play a machine you like the look of. There are hundreds to choose from and we all have ones we like and ones we hate.

On all modern video slots there is a help screen that tells you all the payouts and how the bonus works....sit down, have a read for 2 minutes and if it looks good, get your money out.

Be aware of machines that require an additional bet to enable the bonus round, these are becoming more common (Goldfish is a good example)

It is said that themed machines that may involve royalty payments to a third party have lower payouts to cover these extra costs (eg Hangover or Sex and the City slots)

Machines that have very large progressive jackpots may also have generally lower payouts too as the occasional huge payout needs to be accounted for.

Bottom line to me....if it looks interesting, have a go.

Top 10 tips

1. Push the buttons as fast as you can - this makes the reels stop on winning combinations more oftern.

2. Scream as loud as possible when you win back 32 cents on a 70 cent bet.

3. Rub the screen counterclockwise.

4. Rub the screen clockwise.

5. If you ever get ahead $5 then cash out and move to another machine.

6. Tip the cocktail waitress when you are ahead.

7. Tip the cocktail waitress when you are losing.

8. Play King of Bling and turn the volume up full blast. Everybody loses that!

9. Don't leave a winning machine.

10. Have your ID on you just in case you win big.

Don't expect to win. Walk away when you do (cash out first). Find a game with fun bonus features, Wizard of Oz is fun. I recently played Willy Wonka or whatever it is called in AC and although I did not win, I loved it. It was so much fun. Wheel of Fortune is fun as is The Hangover.

The other thing is to come with a reasonable slot budget - many for a trip to Las Vegas bring more than $1000 US for their time in Vegas (many bring more if their budget allows.). You will run more money through the slot machines if you bring a $1000 since you will get small wins along the way......This is also how you build comps.

In terms of slots, casinos like to change the games often enough and make the new ones look so interesting to play.....so many of us will encounter new slot machines when we visit.

The key thing is to learn how much are you willing to wager and how much are you willing to lose (i.e. think of it like spending money for a show .....your own personal slot show......but its not a way to make a living.)

You might find several of the web sites connected to this interesting to look at

A few lucky tips from slot professionals who are "In The Know"

1. - Seek out and sit next to the old woman who has placed several lucky knick knacks above the play screen, and chain smokes 120mm Virginia Slims. It's a lucky omen...

2 - If you find a three reel machine with a cherry on the pay line in center position, it's a sure sign that it is about to pay off BIG!

3 - Casinos ALWAYS put the best paying machines near a window so the folks outside will see others winning and be drawn in like a magnet!

Just watch out which bets you make. On a 2 cent machine I had somehow made it so I was betting $4 every spin. My $20 didn't last long on that one. hahahaha

I walk around before i put my money in, look at the high payout, progressive, and how much if I play max. Usually i don't play any machine only payout low thousands. I put a $20 in and play max for few spins, if there is nothing, I get up and walk away. But I never look back in case I find someone after me hits a jackpot. Lol

I wish King of Bling paid out some. I can't stop smiling when playing it.
