Monorail not that popular?

I was surprised that the monorail was really dead. A bought a discounted 3 day pass and used it a few times to barely make it worth it. I think the problem is that the monorail is set so far back from the properties that once you've walked there, you could've been half-way up the strip already.

We also rode the free tram from Bellagio to Monte Carlo (which they didn't have the last time I was there) and that had kind of the same problem - but at least it was free.

Thinking next time I'll just take cabs if I need to save time or rest my feet. Curious if other people jump on the buses?

So far, it seems that the monorail has been a failure. I think the intention was to have it stretch from the airport to downtown. If this were ever to happen, it would be a huge success, but I don't think it ever will (cab companies would lose too much money)

The reason it's empty is exactly what you observed. I take cabs, or my car.

It just doesn't go anywhere that we want to go. And as you mentioned it is in the rear of hotels and hard to get to. It's just easier to walk or take a cab.

We used it once, just to try it. We were staying at MGM and wanted to go to Toby Keith's for lunch, which is in the rear of Harrahs. We took it there, and still ended up walking back.

I tried it once. You get a neat view of the golf course at Wynn, but other than that I find no reason to go back. I agree that's its location just makes it too impractical.

I used it for NYE since we were staying beside the LVH and it too far a walk for the bus from there. You are right and it is not very handy as it drops you off at the back of all casinos. Also, it took a few days to finally get that annoying music while riding the monorail out of my head! :-)

I usually only take it to go to the LVH on NFL Sundays. I will say for special events it is put to good use. I was there during the marathon on the strip in November, and the monorail was about the only way to get around since the Strip was closed and the outlying streets were jammed.

We used the monorail when we stayed at the Strat on our fist visit. While it was handy then, I've never found any reason to use it since when staying elsewhere on the Strip.

I thought it was convenient when staying at MGM or NYNY to get down to mid-strip. We will continue to use for that but it is a long walk just to get on it. It does let you rest your feet while making progress down the strip.

Ditto most of the others. I tried it a few times shortly after it opened and decided it really didn't work for me. If I was staying at MGM and needed to get to the LVH for a convention and it was a really big convention and there would be a lot of traffic I might think the monorail was a better way to go, but otherwise it's not all that convenient.

I like walking the Strip, and if I'm in a hurry and/or the destination is too far, I would either take a taxi or drive the rental car I usually have.

I used to use the monorail but they started playing with their price structure. I didn't feel it was reasonable for a single ride anymore and this all happened when the Deuce was originally launched and before the cab rates went up. Since then I started to regularly rent a car. Sure you can get a better per ride fare buying a multi ride pass but they don't get to enough places to make that kind of commitment.
