Valet Parking at MGM Grand

I apologise in advance if this is a silly question!

I have never used Valet parking before, and even though we have been to Vegas and stayed at MGM Grand both times, we've never had a car.

This year we will be spending 4 nights in LA and then driving ourselves to Vegas, where we will have the car for a few days. I understand valet parking is the best option, but I don't know how to use it!! Do we just drive up and hand over the keys? Do we pay or is it just a tip?

I know that some people may think this a ridiculous question, but I would really appreciate some explanation on jus how to use it.

Thanks :o)

You drive up, someone will come to meet you and take the keys. It's free. It's traditional to tip when you get your car, somewhere between $3-$5 is usual. There is usually no tip/payment involved when initially dropping off your car.

Not a silly question at all. They will give you a claim ticket and often ask for your last name as well. When you're readyvto pick the car up go to the valet window outside and hand over the ticket. They'll take it and give you back part of it. You hand that part to the driver alongvwith your tip.

Not a ridiculous question. You drive up, following the signs for valet. You leave you keys in the car, but don't lock the door. The friendly valet will stroll up and ask your name. He will give you a ticket and drive your car away.

When you want your car back, there is a specific window where you turn in your ticket. They will give you a small stub off your ticket and go get your car. When they drive up with your car, give the value your stub, plus a tip ($2 is acceptable, tip more if the service is excellent, they give you directions, etc.)

Note that if you don't want to valet, nothing wrong with self-parking. They only time your *really* want to valet is when you check in with lots of luggage.

EDIT - Should point out that the free valet parking thing is pretty much limited to Vegas casinos. If you valet park in, say, LA, it'll be pricy!

Hi

We find valet is handy on check in but prefer self park if not loaded down with bags. It is alot of the time quicker we have found. Also if you want to just put something in or out of the car, it's easy.

Thanks everyone, that's really helpful. We will certainly use the valet parking when we arrive at MGM as we will be loaded with suitcases!

The walk from the self park into the main area at MGM sucks, its well worth using the valet at this particular resort.

Some places let you call ahead and have your car brought up before you get there to avoid waiting around for them to get it, depends on how busy they are.

I'm always loosing the ticket they give you, I have got in the habit of snapping a pic of it on my mobile phone straight away. Takes a few seconds, might save you hours..... Especially if its a rental car and you don't know the license plate etc...

I once had a conversation like this -

"I've lost my ticket"

"What car was it"

"A silver Toyota Camry..... I think"

"License plate?"

"No idea"

"Hope you don't have plans today!"

The valet seems to be a little busier on the weekends, but if you're not in a big hurry you should be fine.
