Walk along the strip

Hi,we are going to be staying in the Luxor middle of May and was wondering how long it would take us to walk right down the strip. We don't have any walking difficulties and are used to walking a fair bit but I'm not sure how busy it will be then or how hot!!.Also is it advisable to take a taxi to the old part of Vegas?

1. It's a long walk- made longer by the attractions and distractions! I suggest you look on Google Maps.

2. Go Downtown by cab or bus.

And, in May it's quite hot- wear a sun hat, use sunscreen and wear comfortable shoes.

Middle of May will be hot but I have walked from Luxor to Wynn in May previously nipping in and out of casinos collecting chips and it took me 2 hours. If you were simply wanting to stick to the street and walk that distance then i reckon you could do it in an hour.

Keep in mind the strip is deceptively long. What might start off a quick walk a couple casinos down might take 30 minutes and you got to prepare for the return back. I think it would take hours from one end to the next and that's without stopping to see the sights. I usually stay mid strip and focus north strip one day and south another. I also avoid back tracking. Good idea to map your day out.

Middle of May should be great weather. You can easily walk all along the strip. How long it would take to walk the whole strip I don't know, but it's about 3 miles from the Luxor to Circus Circus. So, it depends on how fast you walk, and how much time you have to wait to cross the side streets.

What do you mean "the old part of Vegas?" Are you talking about Fremont Street in downtown?

My suggestion, take it easy! My first day in vegas we walked from wynn down to luxor and back checking out everything in between. We looked at Mandalay and thought, ugh ive seeen enough. The next day our legs were sore! Lol. Everything there is so huge, it takes a lot of walking, A LOT OF WALKING, to see everything on the strip. And we didnt really look around much in several hotels. Pace yourself!

Do one section at a time. Don't rush yourself and see what you want.

If your going Downtown(old section) you have to take a cab.

Just a suggestion for you Lynne. Why not buy tickets for the hop on, hop off bus which comes to $38 with Groupon(link below). You pick the bus up at Excallibur and enjoy the sites all the way down to Circus Circus where you change onto the Downtown tour. Take the next bus to Golden Nugget and get off and spend time downtown on Freemont Street. Back on the bus to Circus Circus and then onto Excalibur again.

Whilst doing so, this will allow you to see where you want to walk to and what hotels you want to visit, plus it gives you the time in Downtown as well. Its a good way to spend 3 hours and the guides are normally quite funny. It will also be slighlty cheaper than getting a cab to and from downtown, whilst fulfilling a few other things.

Whenever any of my friends go to Vegas for the first time with me, i always take them on the tour.
