The comments from the locals at the end of the article are pretty interesting, too.

The Orleans is a consistant Fav for me as I always get a rental car and eat at the off-strip buffets for the savings. South Point is a low rollers heaven. They even have Mini-Bac at $5/hand, I haven't seen that anywhere else. Sam's Town is a good choice for an all-in-one place too, they have Prime Rib for their dinner buffet every night. The M is nice enough but seems pricey whereas GVR and Red Rock have the same "Feast" buffets with the same pricing as the other station casinos. That makes them a bargain in my book. The only downside to Red Rock is the longer drive out there but it's still worth the stop. I can't call the Trop a Locals casino but as far as the casino itself, it does feel smallish but the recent remodel is quite nice.

On our many trips I have found Southpoint to be one of the best. SAMs Town, except buffet, is lousy. Many will tout themselves as such but, few are really locals oriented. Nowadays, they have all gotten lousy as far as comps and looser slots. The personal touch is gone via corporate greed and that is just the way it is. All employees have their hands out and enough is never enough for these money mongers. The whole town has turned to crap compared to days of yore.

Bartman: Gold Coast has a dozen $5 and $10 mini-bac tables going most nights. Although I don't think they have $3 craps like South point.

None of my favorite local casinos made the list. I guess that is a good thing, maybe?

But "The D"? How can a place named after the armpit of the US (I love Detroit!) be on any positive top 10 list?

Interesting. I expected to see Gold Coast and maybe Palace Station as those two seemed to give the most comps and deals to my local friends by a huge margin, even though they frequent several of those on the list too. I like Red Rock myself quite a bit.

Tropicana as #1 locals favorite, are you kidding me. My favorite is Orleans and it definitely is a locals place as well as enjoyed by others.

I might point out that just because someone lives in Las Vegas doesn't make them a smarter or better gambler. As someone who plays poker with a lot of locals I can assure you of this.

This was not a list of the best places to gamble, it is a list of "favorite casinos." Remember that these are the people who probably voted Olive Garden as best Italian Restaurant and McDonald as best burger.

Trop has definitely reached out to locals and seeks to be more of a locals casino - and has succeeded to a degree. Certainly has easy access to the strip for locals with their locals parking - that could make them worthy of #1 right there - they also provide discounts in their restaurants to locals (have you tried Biscayne? - it is very good). Also, the 20% slot loss rebate is great for local slot addicts and they have decent doubledeck blackjack game.

I like all these casinos and tend to go to one for awhile and then try another. Would have difficulty putting them in any order or classifying any as strictly local or tourist. I went to all of these long before I ever moved here. And after moving here, I still occasionally visit strip casinos. The ability to do it all - as well as enjoy all the non-gambling aspects of Las Vegas (backpacker magazine named it the top adventure city in the country (a few years ago) due to easy access to so many awesome National Parks - and other public lands). I've been to Alliante but it is far away for me so not a regular stop - if I lived closer would certainly spend more time there as it is nice. Live close to Red Rock Casino and used to go there but haven't been in ages.
