Family vacation with a baby?

We're planning to take our family to LV for spring break, the week before Easter. We have a 17, an 11, and a (then) 6 month old - all boys. We've booked a two bedroom suite at Signature at MGM so I think accommodation will be fine, but I'm wondering how much we'll feel comfortable doing with the baby? I've only been to Vegas once, years ago, and I'm reading mixed reviews as to how "family friendly" it is now. Specifically, will it be comfortable to take the baby to the pools at MGM Grand? (where the older boys hope to spend a lot of time) Or will it be overrun with partying young adults? Will we be okay walking around with a stroller? We'd like take everyone to the Venetian, NY NY, the fountains at Bellagio, the aquarium at Mandalay Bay. Finally, what about dining? Are there restaurants that we can bring the baby in a stroller and check it at the entrance? I appreciate any advice or suggestions. First time mom here (older boys are my stepsons). Thanks.

A baby is going to be oblivious to what's around them, so whatever they see won't affect them. Not true of the boys, especially that 17 year old.

AFAIK, Wynn is the only place that won't allow strollers if you're not a guest. Pushing a stroller most of the time isn't a problem, though walkways are often crowed and convoluted. Walking around pushing the stroller at midnight will earn you some dirty looks and maybe some nasty comments. Hopefully that's not your plan, but it absolutely does happen. That is, in no small part, why people get very anti-kid in Vegas. Its not really the kids. Its the parents.

Babies aren't particularly welcome anywhere, but they're not excluded, either. Its really up to you as the parent to manage them. If they get noisy when you're eating at a restaurant, be courteous and take the baby somewhere else. Vegas isn't friendly to the point of people looking at a crying baby and saying "oh, that's just the way babies are".

The pools are MGM are party pools. I don't recall any sort of kiddie pool, but wasn't looking for it, either. But you shouldn't have any problem taking your kids to the pools. Just don't expect it to be like a neighborhood pool or a teen oriented water park.

You will be fine. Don't worry about the baby, but use common sense. You wouldn't bring a baby to Michael Mina's restaurant in SF, so don't bring him to his restautrant in Las Vegas.

Your life will most assuredly be different, including travel, but you will get used to it.

The signature pools are quieter, and if you try hard enough, you will find a reasonable area at the MGM pools and the boys can do the lazy river with all the drunks and hot chicks, if they want.....:-)

As previously said- just use basic baby etiquette: Don't be pushing him through casino's or down the strip after8-9pm. Be prepared, some street corners have stairs and escalators that you use to get onto overpasses and across the street. There are elevators you'll need with the stroller.

As for eating, I've always had the rule if I needed to make a dinner reservation, then it's not a place for a child under 5. That's MY rule of thumb.

I dont know how much in common the 17 & 11 have?

To me that is likely your biggest 'issue'. Plan the trip around them and you'll be fine

As said above, common sense is the rule. The older boys will have a great time. There are lots of things for them to do for sure. Just takes proper planning. Maybe dad can take the boys to some afternoon shows like Mac King,Nathan Burton or Jeff Civilico or vice-versa. have fun

The older boys will undoubtedly enjoy collecting the slapper cards, put that on your list. Giselle is a particularly rare collectible.

Hey underpar-

I'm curious. Having taken my son twice- and including EVERY other trip I've ever made to Vegas, NOT ONCE has a porn slapper put a card in front of my son, or my wife, or even me. They have their hand out, but as I walk a straight line ahead- I've never made any contact, or been contacted.

Where in Vegas are you hanging out you have all these cards 'flicked at you' 'shoved in your face' or in any way displayed in a manner YOU didnt have to reach out to take it?

I've been just about everywhere on the strip- and downtown, but never seen it. Where are you hanging out? Do you carry yourself in such a manner they find you an attractive target?

You like to make comments such as above- But you are clearly in a section of Vegas I've yet to see.

Any help would be appreciated

You'll be fine. I've been all over Vegas and that negative "stroller " talk is so embellished. Push it thru the casinos on the designated walkways all you want. People saying that they trip over them blah, blah, blah. And complaining about the harmless people passing out the cards- toughen up. My kids are grown now, but seeing the little ones is endearing; it doesn't bother me at all. And if someone gives you a disgusted look, just tell them."Vegas BABY!"
