Help please.Large jump in price when adding toddler to hotel

Hi,

Please no response with opinion on a toddler in Vegas.

We need help with a room booking and will be grateful for any answers.

We are looking at booking a hotel for 2 nights early June prior to driving to Palm Springs. Our dates are 4 till 6th June and our flight gets in at 6.30pm. When you do a search on Trip Ad it comes up PH for £64 for two nights. Then when you got through to the booking site and add in an infant (just under 2) it jumps up to £115 ish for the two nights. ?? any idea why?? seems a bit odd as the toddler will just be sleeping in the king bed with us so no need for larger room or extra bed. This is not the only hotel where this happens.

My question is could we just book with the two adults then either turn up with the wee one or I just check the two adults in and how will they know that we even have the toddler??

What do you think as I dont see why we should be paying double for just adding an infant to the booking.

Thanks for any help.

If you explain it to the hotel in advance then I would hope they would be ok with you just booking 2 adults. If you don't need a rollaway or anything.

Wonder why the price goes up?

The price goes up because most hotels in Vegas charge per person after 2 people. The beds don't matter. Some hotels allow kids for free but some don't.

That does seem a little odd. I did some checking and the room costs went up (not double) but $24 per night with a child.

Just book for the two of you and then show up. IF they care, they'll be charging a nominal fee, not a huge jump as you're seeing online.

The only reason i could think would be an expected increase in housekeeping for a baby?

many folks bring 4 when booking for 2 - I would book 2 and have person with baby not be the person checking in - an increased cost when you need nothing extra is just dumb

^^^ I agree with mgg. Book for two - They're probably not going to say anything about your toddler during check-in.

The hotel policy states:

"Up to two children or adults are charged USD 30 per person per night when using existing beds."

How they get from $60 to £51 is the question. That's also an incredibly low price, about $53 per night. Summer weeknights at PH should be more like $90-100. I'd check directly on the hotel website - that price looks way to low and the big bump for 1 child seems odd as well.

If you will have a car why not stay off strip? Maybe rates will be lower.

Perhaps Jockey Club would be a good a place to inquire into. They have kitchens etc.

Worth having a look at Tahiti village. Great pool and beach area for a toddler plus kitchenette.

We stayed one night last summer with our kids aged 8 and 10 before heading to Palm Springs. Depends if you are fussed about casino or just want to get over the worst if the jet lag.

Do you think this is accident? Do you think the corporations that run the hotel/casinos didn't think this through? They know exactly what they are doing.

A room occupied by 2 adults and a child will generate less income for a hotel/casino than one occupied by a couple. A couple with a toddler isn't going to be spending any money on fine dining, drinks or clubs. And most importantly, they won't be spending much time in the casino.

This is why Las Vegas hotel/CASINOS charge extra for kids, while regular hotels elsewhere do not. You can find hotels (motels, inns, etc) that do not charge for kids, but they won't be hotel/casinos on the Strip.
