needing place to stay at Grand Cayon South for a night, any

We are looking to visit the south rim in April, stopping at Hoover Dam on the way out.

We need a stop over at a local hotel for the night as I don't fancy the long drive back to Vagas the same day. Is it best to stay over on a weekday for better rates/quieter tourist numbers etc?

Any ideas of a low cost place to stay near the Canyon?

Family of four.

Best place to stay is in the park. There is lodging at all different prices.

If you can't fins anything there, look at hotels in Tusayan just outside the park.

Further out, at an hour away is the town of Williams.

Your best bet is Williams AZ. It's a small town about 60 miles south of the National Park and south rim. They offer a number of both chain and private hotels. We are also going over in april and found the Motel 6 offers a decent rate. If you pick the hotels right near the park you are looking at $100+ a night. Williams is a nice town to check out and stay and not that far to get up and drive up to the canyon the next morning.

If you're going to GCNP you really want to stay in the park. Check the web site linked above. But if nothing is available, call and keep calling to try to catch a cancellation. Booking open one year in advance and popular dates book up fast. But lots of cancellations happen. With persistence, you'll get a room. Bright Angle is the cheapest, though hardly cheap. And the rooms that say only hold two people truly only hold two.

Use skype if the cost of the call is an issue.

I strongly agree with Wheatie and recommend that you stay inside the Park and keep calling back if they have no rooms available as there are cancellations.

Thanks everyone some really great tips. Got a place sorted. Not cheap but hey you only live once and better I spent it than leave it all to the kids.

Well done. You should always stay inside the park if you can get a room there. The experience of being within walking distance to the rim is unbeatable.
