How many days for the perfect trip?

How many days do you feel one needs to spend in Las Vegas for the perfect trip? The two previous times I have gone has been for 4 days /3 nights. I arrive in Vegas around noon and get to the hotel around 1pm. That gives me most of the day to go to the pool or to get out and about. the final day is not much of a day, Just enough time to pack, eat a good breakfast buffet and get to the airport for a 11 AM flight back home. This gets me back home around 7PM. I guess my question is two fold: 1)How do most of you schedule your arrival/departure, and 2) how many day is just right to spend in Vegas without going broke or ready to leave?

Hmmm....to answer these backwards:

I've never been to Vegas and on the ride to the airport said to myself "glad I'm leaving today". I have, however, felt some teeny tiny relief that soon I will be back to what passes for my regular life and be able to get some sleep and not have people handing me drinks 24/7. And I usually crave salads and vegetables for 2 weeks after I return. But I can tell you that 5 days / 4 nights is about perfect for me. That way I can dedicate one day to being lazy by the pool and not feel like I should be out seeing / doing / gambling.

I usually schedule my arrival around 10pm or 11pm Vegas time. That allows me to work almost a full day (Vegas is 3 hours behind for me, and you too now that I notice), stay up as late as possible so that I can sleep to a decent hour and not be up at the crack of dawn. For the return flight I do the opposite - leave around 7am or so, will get me back home around 6pm my time, can grab a bite to eat, shower and sleep and still be ok for work the next day. (Note that I said "ok", not "functioning".)

Good question. The average stay in Vegas is 3.7 nights. Last year we stayed 3 nights, but we took a day trip to L.A (by plane). Therefore, our time in Vegas was definitely limited and packed to the brim with activity. An extra night would have helped. However, if we had stayed in Vegas the whole time, I think 3 nights would have been plenty of time to do what we wanted to do. We are not big gamblers.

This year, I again scheduled a 3 night trip for late August. When I made the reservation, I didn't know we would end up booking a night at the Grand Canyon. Now I wish we had 4 nights, but oh well. We are staying downtown and plan to take in the downtown stuff this time, since we did almost all of the Strip stuff last year (except the Wynn and Rio, which we plan to get to this year).

We don't spend time at the pool and maybe 1 hour a day in the casino, so most of our time in Vegas is spent sightseeing. For us, therefore, 2 nights would probably be enough.

So to answer your question, it depends on how much you want to do. If you will just want to stay by the pool and in the casino and do some light sightseeing, 3 nights would be fine. If you are doing any day trips, I would recommend at least 4 nights.

Whoops, didn't answer your first question. I try to schedule my arrival as early as possible (11 am this year), and I try to schedule the departure as late as possible (3:30 pm this year, allowing us to get back home by 10 pm).

I think 5 nights is probably best for us, though we've enjoyed longer trips too. We usually fly out of Chicago at 5:55 pm so we can work at least a partial day and then get to Vegas for dinner. We like to head home around 4 so we get home mid evening. It gives us time to have a good last lunch in Vegas before returning the rental car. It also let's us get home in time to unpack a bit and hang out with our pets before hitting the sheets.

Spend just enough time to use everything in your suitcase!

Five nights is perfect. Allows a day for doing nothing and time to get a little balance so that it is a vacation and not a marathon to see and do everything that you want to do.

What do I really do: leave Phoenix @ 8am Sun, get in around 1pm.

Leave Fri by noon and get back home just in time for rush hour. 5 nts and almost 5 full days.

What would I do if I could (or what do I think would be perfect?): Leave Sat am and return following Sat afternoon. I think 7 nts would be perfect.

I am always "going" when in Vegas, can't sit still when I know there's so much going on! In 5 days, we usually spend 1 day at the pool, then back to the room to get ready and head out for the evening. I would love to have an extra day (or 2) in the middle of the trip to sit by the pool all day, and then go to the room, take a nap, and order room service. Just enjoy the hotel for 1 whole day without feeling like I need to be out seeing the sights.

True Perfection would be winning the big one and having the penthouse comped until I got tired of it all and was ready to go home=)

The other thing to consider is that if you are travelling from overseas the first day is a write-off.

We stayed 6 nights, however by the time we had checked into the hotel it was probably 7pm, and we were tired from 14 hours on a plane (Delta with stopover).

Personally I would have liked to have 7 or 8 nights in LV. I really, really didn't want to leave!

Arrive Sunday, leave Friday.

And BTW, at most Casino/Hotels those five nights will probably cost you just about the same as a "weekend" stay of Friday and Saturday only.
