Cheaper Buffets?

Never having been to Vegas I'm not too sure what to expect from the buffets. We're staying at the Excalibur and have read mixed reviews as to their buffet. We've been to Orlando several times and regularly visit Golden Coral and genuinely quite enjoy it - are the cheaper end buffets in Vegas, ie Excalibur, Luxor etc similar to Golden Coral?

Having eaten a number of times at the Luxor buffet and at Golden Coral's through out the south I can say that even as bad a reputation as the Luxor buffet has on this forum it is still better than any Golden Coral I have been too.

No golden corral is better. There is a golden corral in vegas not by the strip though. Only thing excalibur and the others can beat golden corral on is the variety

That's probably a pretty fair comparison.

I think it's pretty much accepted that the cheap buffets off the Strip are a little higher quality than those in the economy Strip hotels. Because the off-strip casinos have to cater to more locals as part of their customer base, which means they need return customers. So if you are looking for value in cheap buffets, that's where you will find it, instead of places like Excalibur.

Orleans, Gold Coast, Silverton, and some of the Station casinos are probably considered the best vlaues at lower prices.

I haven't been to Golden Coral, but have eaten at Excalibur's buffet.

It's not as bad as all the reviews claim. Just like the hotel rooms aren't as bad as the reviews claim. The problem is the reviews are skewed, because they are based on VEGAS.

The food is decent (I ate there 4 times, and never felt sick after). I noticed things such as them using actual brand name items (Like Yucatan Guacamole, not some cheap no name knock off). But the food isn't as good as most of the other buffets on the strip. Just like the hotel reviews the hotel would probably be a 4 star in your home town, but in Vegas it looks like a dump in comparison to the hotels surrounding it)

The food is quite bland compared to other buffets, and there are no Crab legs, or Lobster tails. But they did have a few really good dishes. A few that stood out to me were the Build your own Fajita area, and the Prime rib.

I've used the Exc. buffet a few times. I would compare it to Golden Corral with a few more items. Not fancy and quite plain food, but good for the price. Higher priced places have the better buffets, but the buffets at those places are getting so pricey that I would rather go to a sit-down family restaurant to eat. good luck

Excalibur Breakfast Buffet is pretty Good ( eggs benedict/ meats/ eggs also made to order) . It also has a large variety. Luxor quality is probably better than golden corral for dinner, but the selection is much smaller. If all three were in the same area, I would go to Ex for Breakfast and Golden Corral for Lunch and probably also dinner ( I happen to like the Fried Chicken at the Golden Corral).

When I stayed at the Luxor, I ate Breakfast at Excalibur but had dinners at Rio, PH, Paris, M Resort. If you like Golden Corral, You would Love the Carnival Buffet at the Rio.
