So MGM/Mirage Resorts are now charging a $10 convience fee

I called to cancel my res. at Bellagio for my april trip because I got a comp.d room at the Cosmo.

As soon as I called their automated systemed said they are now charging a $10 conveince fee to book reservations by phone.

To think I thought resort fees were a petty cheap money grab. But hey what do you expect when you have huge corporations running the show?

$10 is not much money but I'm sick and tired of all these "fees" all because some out of touch CEO wants to grab more money. Fee for this fee for that hell I wont be surprised if they start charging you a $5 fee for losing your players club card, $10 for an extra room key, $20 for a roll of toilet paper, $15 for more then one bath towl, $30 for soap and toiletries.

I know exactly why they are adding that fee. They are trying to force you to book on line (not a huge deal). But they want to lay off as many room reservation phone operators as possible.

I think that airlines also charge you extra to book with a live person.

It wouldn't be so bad if their website were a bit more stable and usable!!!

I believe that most people would rather see an all in price rather than this false economy price.

It's where we draw the line on the a la carte stuff that you pay for only if you need/use it.

But can we agree to stop before someone suggests bringing back the pay toilets?

Other hotels (like CET ones) and airlines have been doing this for years. I don't care for it much, and while I know this requires them to staff a call center, I believe that is part of the cost of doing business.

I am one of those people that uses the web for most kinds of reservations, providing the company in question has a fully functioning website. MLife does not, it was down just the other day when I used it.

I also feel that the phrase "convenience fee" is one that only serves to alienate the customer. A company would do better to surreptitiously raise their prices and then provide "-a $10 web booking discount!-". Then everybody would be on here woo-hooing on this great advancement.

I'm curious to know, if I call VIP Services through M Life to set up a reservation, will I be charged the fee? I guess I will find out soon enough!

That is a good point, since sometimes the offers I have received leave you no choice but to call and reserve.

You're really going to be upset when you go to your bank and see their fees.

John T and rhino, I'm wondering the same thing if you call VIP services to book a room.

I don't think M-Life or offers from MGM or Mirage, etc Casino Marketing will be charged $10.

This is for everyday people booking directly with the hotel not on a promotion/comp.

Frankly I am okay with this. If adding a silly little fee like this that won't effect 90% of people who stay at MGM properties helps a little with revenue so they can continue maintaining and upgrading their properties, then more power to them.
