ID in bars

We go to Vegas in 2 weeks (eeek!) and I know that I'll need to show ID at some point, so I wondered whether my UK driving license would be accepted out there, if anyone knows?

Thanks in advance.

Many places will accept it, some may not. Your passport will always be accepted.

Someone wrote last week that his buddy's UK driver's license was not accepted at Margaritaville.

Theoretically, your UK photo driving license should be fine. However, every few weeks someone drops by TA to mention that theirs was *not* accepted somewhere. Las Vegas casinos are subject to rather serious fines if they serve underage persons and not every employee has seen every type of legitimate ID. So relax and carry your passport as well. Expect to be carded every time you buy alcohol. If you look "young" you may even be asked to show ID while playing.

It all comes down to the person you encounter - some will accept it, others will not even in the same casino or bar.

I know as far as some clubs, the guys, or bouncers, that work the door usually aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. So instead of trying to figure out if a drivers license is fake or not when it comes to foreigners, they'd rather just look at a passport since it's a little tougher to get a fake one of those.

I always carry my driving licence ID and this has always worked but I suppose it depends on who you get - the new style photo cards issued in the UK are now a bit flimsy compared to the older style photo card so whether this will influence anyone inspecting it I don't know!

It will def be asked for a lot more if you are/look young - perhaps I am past that point now as don't get asked as much :)

It is a worry to have to carry your passport all the time , if you lose it you are stuffed!!!, Maybe your drivers licence and a photo copy of your passport together may be enough. I would not carry my passport at all times. worrying about it would stop me having a great time!!.

Our UK Drivers licenses (photo card) were accepted everywhere we went in Vegas (including margaritaville). I'm not happy carrying my passport incase I was to lose it, so left it in the safe the whole time.

The only place I was asked for my passport was to collect our players card at Planet Hollywood (we'd already applied online). I didn't bother going back as we don't going in CET casinos much anyway, but this was the only place that asked for it.
