Have you stayed only in old Vegas for an entire trip?

Has anyone been to Vegas and stayed in a hotel in old Vegas and pretty much only stayed there and didn't venture out to the strip? In other words , if you are staying for than a few days at old Vegas , is there enough there to keep you and not have to make the trip to the strip ?

What is "Old Vegas"

Are you referring to Fremont Street/Downtown?

By Old Vegas, do you mean Downtown?

We don't stay Downtown, but next week we will stay at 2 different hotels off-strip. We will visit CETville on the Strip Saturday, because we have events planned. Other than that, we will probably not go to the Strip this trip.

Some trips we do stay on the Strip. But we don't have to to enjoy Las Vegas. It depends on why we are there. A lot of Vegas regulars do stay off-strip or Downtown. They go to the Strip if there is something they want, but have plenty to keep them busy.

Of course, if this is only your 1st, 2nd or 3rd (fill in your own #) visit, you still think of the Strip as Las Vegas, and aren't ready to leave it yet. And that is great too.

I too assume you mean downtown. On our very first trip we stayed five nights at Golden Nugget. We then spent two nights at Bellagio. Holy cow! I didn't venture out while we were downtown, though my wife went out to a few stores. IMHO, no, there's not enough to do downtown unless the focus of your trip is gambling. We've been to Vegas over a dozen times since then and never again stayed downtown. We do visit there on most trips, though. But usually just an evening or two.

yes, we sometimes stay DT for 3-4 nights and never go to the strip. Gamble (cheap VP), casino hop, eat (great happy hours), drink, bands (on Fremont or at Rush), bars (pub crawls-east Fremont, Hogs etc), shopping (lots of great gift shops)

Old Vegas? Very little remains of the "Old Vegas" as one might originally picture it as; whether it's hotels/casinos along the Strip or in the downtown district. Some places still retain their old names but have been redoing some of their structural surroundings.

When I think of the Old Vegas, I think of the long gone Dunes, Sands, Frontier, Stardust, Westward Ho, etc. along the Strip back in the days when the valet entrance was strictly fronting directly off LV Blvd. And the days of the old, downtown Fremont Street long before it was turned into a pedestrian walkway with an overhead canopy.

Yes sorry by old Vegas I meant downtown Vegas. Thought they are one and the same.

I stay in "old Vegas" every trip and love it.

My thing is that i like to basically hangout and drink beer with some affordable gambling.

i have been around the world many times so i am not really that fascinated by shiny objects and water nozzles.

Of course I like them and will venture out to see them but find my way home every night.

Thats the key here anyway. Find yourself a home.

Some people find it at a super fancy place and some find it at a dump.

The real objective is to find it , no matter what anyone else thinks.

staying downtown is great & affordable--you need to rent a car & go to the strip & sightseeing during

the day--at night you park your car downtown & have a ball--everything is close--prices are reasonable--

people having fun--can't be beat....

When we get comped rooms downtown, we'll stay there for those nights, but not more than 3 nights there. Rest of the trip will be on, or just off, the Strip.

Even if we don't stay DT, no trip is complete without venturing up there for a day.

When I first started going to Las Vegas, it was all Strip/no Downtown. Then it became mostly Strip/a little Downtown. Then mostly Downtown/a little Strip. Now it's all Downtown/no Strip. I suppose one of these days it'll be No Strip/No Downtown and I'll be hanging out in Henderson.
