Is this your first trip to Vegas? Or do you usually hang out in the North end of the strip? Just wondering so I know what types of things you are looking for regarding things that are nearby.

Plenty going on at and near Excalibur. Some people hate it and other like/love it. You will probably run into a few more families there due to the arcade and such on-site. Casino is kinda smoky, but most of the time failrly cheap table mins. It's a short walk to Luxor, NYNY, Tropicana and MGM Grand.

I stayed there many times. Easy to navigate inside once you learn which tower you're in. Tram to Mandalay is handy. Do go there for drinks up at Mix.

If you decide to go downtown, you can catch the WAX express bus right across the street at NYNY on Tropicana Ave. Unlike The Deuce or SDX buses that travel up & down the strip and deal with all that traffic & stop lights, the WAX will get you downtown almost as fast as a taxi via the freeway for only $2.

Check out their poker room if you want an easy game and cheap tournaments. They have an arcade downstairs just before you reach the exit towards NYNY. Use the tram, which connects you to Luxor and Mandalay Bay. Go to Mandalay Bay and check out the House of Blues. Not a huge fan of Excalibur, but it's close to NYNY, Luxor, Tropicana and MGM so it's not that bad of a location.

As you enter Excalibur from the exterior walkway, stay to the right when entering to avoid the time-share people. The food court upstairs us very nice and it has a Krispy Kreme that always calls my name.Very convenient overhead walkways to NYNY or Tropicana. The Deuce bus stops right in front which is convenient. The Deuce bus pickup is just across the strip in front of the Tropicana so that's convenient too. Take the escalator upstairs to take the walkway to Luxor and beyond. Luxor has a nice breakfast place called the Pyramid Café. have fun

Thanks for the info on the Pryamid Café, that's the type of info I'm looking for, also the Krispy Kreme info.

Do whatever you can in order to stay in the updated "Contemporary" rooms; the standard rooms are drab and depressing.

There's not much in the way of dining choices on-site but NYNY and MGM are very close and have great options.

I have stayed in Luxxor several times which is right next door. I gravitate to the casino at Excalibur because of the low table minimums. Its REALLY fun at night. The casino is dated but I love it the relaxed atmosphere. The roulette dealers are really nice and fun if you like that game. Craps table is always full. Its like a singles bar with gambling equipment. MGM and Tropicana have had upgrades recently and they are nice. Go through the shops on the walkway from Luxxor to Mandala bay...nice Mexican joint called Housongs and Irish pub called RiRia.
