Mandalay vs MGM (thinking of switching)

We are booked at Mandalay Aug 24-28. I keep reading awesome stuff about MGM (better lazy river, monorail station, nice rooms). I'm wondering if we should switch to MGM. Thoughts? Why do you like one or the other better? We are travelling with us (32 yrs old) and two kiddos (10 and 6 months) (i know, I know, vegas and kids blah blah skip that part lol). Cheers

Mandalay Bay is the better property in almost every way, and that is reflected in the rates.

As far as the river goes, the MGM river is a little longer than the one at MB, but both will be extremely crowded on your dates. There will be more kids in the MB river, but there will be more young people drinking in the MGM river. Not only is drinking allowed in the MGM river, it is encouraged. So take your choice.

In addition to the river, Mandalay Bay also has the beach and the wavepool, which is why they attract more families.

IAH I wouldn't stay at either in August, as both pools will be mobbed. But of the two, there is no question that MB is the superior property.

MGM has the better location, MB the better hotel.

MGM has more of a party vibe than Mandalay Bay.

Mandalay Bay has a tram to Excalibur (monorail is a highly exaggerated feature, IMO)

There is more to do for your 10yo at Mandalay Bay's pool than at the MGM Grand pool.

I've stayed at both and enjoyed both. Mandalay Bay is the better property. I wouldn't switch.

I wouldn't switch either. Actually I prefer the location of MB as the rooms have much better views. As there is a free tram to Excalibur getting to Tropicana is really easy. If anything, depending on where your room is at MGM it actually might take you longer to get to Trop and The Strip.

I'm not so sure I would say Mandalay Bay is a better property. I actually like the rooms at MGM Grand better. They have been redone more recently. However, MGM Grand is really freaking crowded. Mandalay Bay doesn't have that problem. I think MGM has a better location too.

Still, tough call. Have you stayed at either?

MGM is the better property in almost every way, and has the better rates.

As far as the river goes, the MGM river is a lot longer than the one at MB, and can handle the fact that both will be extremely crowded on your dates. There will be more little kids in the MB river, and you will barely be able to get around it.

The Mandalay Bay has the beach, which is a pain since you wind up tracking sand into the pool and the very nice wavepool.

Again since MGM can handle the crowds better I would stay there in August. They have the godawful Rainforest Cafe, but you're 10 year old might like it. Also the M&M store is a short walk away.

To answer an earlier question, I don't know which one is easier to sneak booze into. I would never think of doing that.

Mandalay's basic rooms are better than MGM's basic rooms. I like the the casino at Mandalay a lot better personally. I prefer the restaurant choices at Mandalay also. I would say Mandalay is the better property in almost every way, maybe with the exception of the Lazy River and the location on the strip, neither of which matter to me.

MGM has the better location,

Better for what?

Am I the only one who found the Monorail Station only good for dropping you off a 10 minute walk from the back side of any hotel it stops at?
