Trip report 7-14th July- Vegas first timers

Day 1

So here goes.. we arrived in Vegas on Sunday afternoon and having booked a penthouse @ the Bellagio we had a limo meet us at the airport to take us to the hotel- arriving in style, as you do in Vegas :-) After flying for 14hours then a 4hour stop over in LA before our 1hour flight to Vegas we were so glad when we pulled up to Bellagios entrance. WOW- is one word to describe Vegas in general it is the best place in the world.

After getting taken to our room only to find there was actually already someone else in there ( a lovely lady laying in bed oops), afew phone calls later and we were off to our new unoccupied room. I think Bellagio is a great hotel and the penthouse was huge but we definitely thought it could do with a bit of an update but the bed was ever so comfy and I had my own bathroom complete with a spa so I was going to enjoy that :-)

We showered and got ready to go meet our friends who also got there that day. After meeting in the casino for afew drinks (or 7) we decided to head down to Fremont Street- and boy oh boy I'm so glad we did..it was so much fun.. The live music, the light show and just the atmosphere in general made for a fun filled night.. We ate at Tony Romas and demolished way to many ribs then ended up at a strip club which was not the classiest place (although I think our husbands enjoyed watching us giving all their hard earned cash to the girls there). I'm not sure what time we made it to bed that night but the next day required a sleep in until lunch.

Day 2

After a late start to the day we headed down to cafe Bellagio for lunch which was yummo.. Then we went for a walk to Planet Hollywood and I did abit of shopping in the miracle mile shops.. After that we headed back to Bellagio to take a look around and explore the hotel.

We got ready for the night and headed off to Caesars to meet our friends. We sat outside drinking cocktails and trying to decide what to do next, we ended up going to Mon ami gabi for dinner and luckily got a table outside so we could watch the fountains at the Bellagio- was definitely a memorable dinner- beautiful food and a beautiful setting. After dinner we went and checked out the Cosmopolitan hotel where our other friends were staying. It is a nice classy hotel but smaller than I thought it would be- our friends had a great room with a gorgeous view and having a balcony was definitely a plus. Off to bed we went as we had our Grand Canyon helicopter tour that next morning.

Day 3

An early morning start (7.30am- that's to early for a Vegas morning)) as the limo was picking us up at 8.30am to take us to our helicopter tour. A quick stop in at Jean Philippe patisserie before we left the hotel was oh so divine- I have an obsession for crepes and this place was my fantasy!!

Once we arrived at Sundance helicopter tours we watched a movie which briefed us on dos and donts while on the tour.. Once we met our pilot and taken out to our helicopter we had photos then climbed in- we were luck enough to get the front seats on the way.. Or should I say unlucky-- about 15 minutes into our trip a light came on and it started getting rather hot. Our air con had broken so we had to turn around and go swap helicopters. Luckily they had another available so after another half hour we were off again, this time we got all the way to the Grand Canyon (west rim). The scenery on the way there (and back) was great. I am really glad we did the tour. After landing in the canyon we had a nice champagne picnic then were off home again :-)

Once back to our hotel we showered and had an early dinner at Cafe bellagio then set off to Caesars to meet up with our friends. They were staying in the Augustus tower and they had a nice big room. We decided to head over to treasure island only to be told once we were there that the pirate show wasn't on anymore Aargghh that is the only reason we went there. We had talked to a waitress the night before at Cosmo and she assured us it was still on ( I did some research and read it was cancelled but assumed it must be wrong as she lives here and said it's still going). So after being disappointed about this sad news we headed over to New York New York. The boys sat at a bar playing video poker or something- hubby ended up with a win so that was good. Us girls went and played video roulette- this is pretty much the only gambling I have ever done (hubby does enough for the both of us).

Next we went up to the Coyote Ugly bar- lots of fun, us girls got up on stage and had a dance. Ended up being another late night :-)

Day 4

Do people normally write these reports while on holiday still? I'm struggling to remember what we did each day so thank goodness for my camera having dates to help jog my memory.

Today was a quiet day- shall we say it was a day to find our brain cells..we went to check out Luxor & Excalibur then had a stop in at New York New York to cash in hubby's ticket.

That night we went to watch Cirque du soleil O at Bellagio. I loved it- the way the stage changed constantly and just the crazy scenes in general kept me mesmerised. I watched abit of background info about the show on the Mlife Chanel in the hotel room so I knew how much time and preparation was put into the show each night they performed. Our other friends watched Absinthe and said it was really funny.

After the shows we walked to Aria and had something to eat there -also saw lots of newly married couples :-)

Headed back to the hotel for bed.

Day 5

The boys went shooting in the morning and they had a great time- said it was definitely the highlight of their trip.

Us girls went shopping at premium outlet North. Got afew good bargains but I felt like there was more for men.. (Afew days later I stumbled across fashion show mall- love love loved it- but shopping with my husband was not ideal)

Tonight was our friends last night in Vegas so we got prepared for a big one..

We had dinner at Carmines in Caesars and wow the spaghetti and meatballs was huge- we ordered 3 different dishes between the 6 of us and it was more than enough to feed us all. After a walk through the forum shops we headed to Bellagio- on our way to the hotel a guy gave us all wrist bands to a night club at Planet hollywood- free drinks for the girls until 1am and free entry for all of us (3 girls and 3 guys). So we thought we'd go later and check it out later. We walked past The Bank in Bellagio and we got in using the fact we are staying in a penthouse. All us girls got a free drink each so we hung around there for abit but figured we might as well go to planet hollywood where we can drink for free-- Well that didn't happen. We got to the night club door and showed our wrist bands and the lady said we still had to pay hmm we asked about girls drinking for free nope that wasn't going to happen either. Basically we had to get a table, my husband being rather drunk by this stage looked at the list and said 'oh yep $35 for a table and bottle of Jacks, sounds good'. I had a look, no it was $350 for a bottle and table.. Let's just say Vegas clubs are different to clubs in Australia. So feeling abit let down we headed down to the casino at PH and luckily found a bar in there that had a great band. If anyone knows who they are feel free to let me know. I'm pretty sure they were playing at the bar which isn't far from when you walk in the front door. They were Lot of fun, we got up on stage with them and had a dance and sang afew lines in the chorus (which I'm sure scared away some people) haha..

After they finished we walked to the Flamingo, played abit of something (honestly can't remember), made afew friends then decided to call it a night.

Day 6

Now that our friends had left it was a little less hectic. We went to premium outlet south so hubby could buy some clothes. I forgot to mention that when we arrived in Vegas and went to unpack our cases the dutyfree alcohol we had brought in Sydney had smashed all through my husbands suitcase- a bottle of whiskey gone and a suitcase full of clothes that stunk. We had to spend $160 on dry cleaning- thank you Delta!! The only bad thing about being on holidays was the lack of washing you could do. In the end I was putting bubble bath (couldn't find laundry detergent anywhere) in the spa, putting the clothes in and turning the jets on and letting it wash our clothes then I would rinse then out and hang them around the room to dry.

So anyway hubby wanted to go shopping - so we went. He brought a whole 1 pair of shorts!! Argh what a waste haha.

We went back to the hotel and dropped of his shopping and headed to the Mirage and had lunch at a burger place then went for a look at the Venetian- gorgeous hotel- out of this world. It was such a beautiful hotel. I loved the decor and the canals in the shops took it to a whole new level. If we- no scrap that- WHEN we go back I think I would like to stay here. What is the area of the Venetian like in general? I really liked the location of Bellagio as it seemed central but there also seems a lot going on around the Venetian to.

We went to Prime at bellagio that night- it was a last minute decision so unfortunately we couldn't get an outside table overlooking the fountains but the food there was fantastic.

After dinner we walked through the hotel but being a Friday night it was so busy so we decided to call it a night.

Day 7

The day was spent lounging by the pool drinking cocktails- tried about 4 different cocktails then decided it was nap time (no I'm really not that good at drinking ;-)

That night we went to see David Copperfield at MGM- I think he is abit of a has been and his picture that is on the taxi roofs and buildings make him look a lot younger than what he really looks like ;-) he called me up on stage and I was absolutely shitting myself. He turned a napkin into a red rose- so thank you Mr Copperfield. By how it was 11pm on a Friday night and wow I can't believe how busy and how huge the taxi line was. We ended up walking to New York to try our luck there, nope it was just as busy. So we decided we couldn't be bothered waiting so we walked up and got a limo- $ well spent if you ask me.

Day 8

So you are all probably thinking wow 8 days is a lot. We actually extended our trip by 2 extra days as we wanted time to do everything we wanted.

After a quiet day we headed to Stratosphere for our last dinner in Vegas- go out with a bang we though, try a nice restaurant with a beautiful view. Our booking was for 7.30pm- I asked for a window table but they couldn't gurantee it so we got there on time and were told a window seat wasn't yet available so we were happy to go to the lounge and wait the 15minutes. While sitting in the lounge looking down into the restaurant we noted there were at least 2 tables of 2 by the window sitting empty.. Hmm that was annoying- so after 20 minutes we told our waitress what was going on (she was a lovely girl), she rang the restaurant and then we were told to head to the restaurant but by this point we were really annoyed- why do we need to sit here and wait if there are free tables?? We decided not to eat there and headed to the Venetian. Earlier we saw a little Italian restaurant on the level above the shops overlooking the canals (sorry can't remember the name). I'm glad we ate here instead. The staff were friendly and the food was delicious.

We strolled though the Venetian then Caesars and watched the fountains one last time before we went to bed for our last night in Vegas.

So all in all I loved Vegas. Upon returning everyone kept asking how it was- I don't think I had time to reflect on our trip and having jetlag and missing our kids terribly the last few days I was wondering if I really enjoyed the trip (also did LA & San Diego).. BUT after afew days to settle in back home I am having serious Vegas withdrawals and am already planning our next trip in 2016 (I'm 30 so I think that's a good excuse to head over there again)!! :-) although hubby is now platinum Mlife member so he wants to go back before the year is up and he gets demoted.. He really thinks he belongs in Vegas- to quote ' I should of been born here'..If only we had an endless supply of money- oh how wonderful that would be

Thanks buffalo boy- I wish we knew about the club scams before we got there- you live and you learn. Won't do it again next time.

Oh - we did do a buffet- we had breakfast/lunch at Bellagio- we weren't overly hungry but it was our last day and I told hubby it was a must :-) the food variety was amazing
