Best place to stay- North, Center or South Strip or Downtown

Newcomers to Las Vegas soon find it's much larger than they anticipated, and there are distinct focal points.

Where is the best place to stay: North, Center or South Strip, Downtown or off Strip?

And, is preference influenced by hotel or some other attraction?

If this is your 1st trip to LV I would recommend staying on center strip.

That will put you in the middle of everything.

The best area to stay in is the one closest to the places where you want to spend most of your time. If your favorite casino is MGM, your favorite restaurants are at Mandalay Bay, and you plan to see a show at NYNY, staying at the south end of the Strip makes way more sense than choosing a center or north Strip hotel.

If you're a first-time visitor or if your interests are spread out, I think the best place to stay is any property that appeals to your taste and budget and lies somewhere on the Strip between Mandalay Bay and Encore.

The center Strip area is much overhyped, in my opinion. It's not close or convenient to everything; any property on the Strip is only close and convenient to a few others.

That's the thing, it depends on what your manner of doing Vegas entails. But I will say, I'm just as happy, North or South as I am center. I am just not fond of a lot of the casinos center strip. I find the areas mostly too loud, crowded and bawdy to want to spend any time outside on the strip. The ones I like best are Wynn, Encore and Palazzo to the North and Mandalay Bay to the south. I like Bellagio in the center. There's no "best" for every visitor.

For a first timer, I like Center Strip only because it makes it easy to go north one day and to go south on another day -- either order. I figure you can see the Strip that way in two days.

But hotel choice is so much more important than south vs. center vs. north. Budget and personal style are important factors.

First timer then centre strip or south-ish.

If working to a budget then I would recommend Monte Carlo.

If you have cash to splash then for first timers, any Cosmopolitan fountain view room.

Center strip. (I would not recommend south-ish; personally I prefer north-ish if I have to choose--this is why center is best--you can tour north one day, south another)

I recommend Bellagio, Caesars or Cosmo for upper end budgets (Cosmo is newer glam, Bellagio European class, Caesars classic Vegas class)

Mid range I would choose Ballys, Paris or Planet Hollywood

Budget go with the Linq

First trip: mid strip. Frequent visitors like us elect to even stay just outside of town in places like Southpoint. Have fun!

If you stay toward the north or south end of the Strip, is there some reason you can't explore one section of the Strip one day and another section the next?

First trip tomorrow. I chose south only because that happens to be where the hotel I want to stay at is located. Between walking and all the transportation options......I think it makes sense to stay at the property you want.
