Be aware of the fact that it may be a very long ride. Depending on traffic, it could take an hour or more.
It took us over an hour to get back one night around 10pm due to the traffic.
Just a note.....the bus does not leave from the same place DT that it drops you off. It is about a block away...so be careful of that. I had some maps that did not show that.
The Deuce bus is the cheapest way to get Downtown. You should not have any trouble getting a seat if you get on near your hotel. When you get off, you will be half a block from Fremont Street and facing in the direction you want to go.
BTW, for those who feel the Deuce bus is slow, it's worth pointing out that cabs have to drive in the exact same traffic and aren't likely to be much faster.
Cabs don't have to stay on the strip, neither do those of use who rent cars.
We got on the bus at the Flamingo stop on a Saturday around 8:00pm. Lots of seats upstairs. It took 30-minutes to get downtown. Once we passed the Riv and Circus we were moving at a decent pace.
There are stops along the way near all the major casinos.
The Deuce is a public bus, the passengers may be tourists, locals on their way to work or other errands and the occasional (mostly harmless) nut case.
The good things about it:
It is relatively cheap, with a 24 hour pass costing five dollars, pay on the bus, exact change only please.
You can get on and off along the way and use it to skip from casino to casino
It is a double decker and the view from the top is very cool.
It is heated and air conditioned.
A leisurely trip, if you have the time, but not if you are in a hurry.
Bad things about it:
It is slow, sometimes painfully so.
Also, a lot of tourists simply have no clue about how it works and the driver has to explain it over and over. It is also very hard to board mid-strip so try to board at the ends of either sides of the strip North or south ends you can get on quicker otherwise it passes you up because it is already full if going downtown count on at least an hour trip.
Where to catch it:
Downtown on Fremont and Las Vegas Boulevard or better yet at the Transit Center where it starts. No crowds and plenty of seats if you get on there. On the Strip, at designated stops but some may be closed due to construction.
Important suggestion - Hit the bathroom Before you get on the bus.
enough about the Deuce Bus
On to the FSE- Just google the Fremont Street Experience it will lead you to show times and descriptions, my favorite is Area 51, what free bands are playing and any special events.
While Downtown also enjoy the many casinos all within close walking distance, the lower priced food and drink, the lower limits on the tables and better odds not to mention the the fried Twinkies at Mermaids and old time piano player at the Golden Gate.
If you dare you may want to take a walk on the wild side, not for the easily spooked.http://www.tripadvisor.com/GoListDetail-i624-Downtown_and_points_east_the_otherside.html
