How are comps earned....just for casino play?

I thought comps were just earned by casino play, but I've been reading reviews where people say that they charged all meals and purchases to their rooms to rack up more comps. I thought that comps could be used to pay for meals if you had charged them to your room, but I didn't think that you earned comps by charging things to your room. Could someone please clarify.

Also, if you don't have a casino host, who do you check with at the end of your stay to see if any comps were earned? We're staying at Bally's. Do we just go back to the Total Rewards desk before we check out?

Comps are earned just by casino play. You charge everything to your room and if you play enough it could be comped or they will just use your points on your card to take it off your bill. Before you check out go to the Total Rewards desk to see how much you have earned and whether anything will be comped. If you have played a lot they will assign you a host.

The first thing you should do upon arrival in vegas is sign up for a players club card in the casino you will be gambling in. That way you can have your points tracked.

I read something similar in a trip report. A couple stayed at the Wynn and charged quite a bit to their hotel bill(shows, food, spa). In turn, they have been comped multiple times by the Wynn. From everything I've read, the Wynn is the only one that does it to this effect. I could be wrong though.

Comps are only generated off play - people are told to charge to their rooms, so that they have something to be 'comped' if they've earned it and don't qualify for their room to the comped. If you've earned comps, but can't 'show' what you've paid for dinner, (by charging to your room), they can't pay for your dinner.

As previously recommended - get a player's card upon arrival, use it faithfully. Don't play for comps (obviously), but it is a nice bonus if you've earned any.

We signed up to the Total Rewards (stayed in Paris) and we probably spent about $500 on gambling in there. Didn't always remember to hand over card when playing on the BJ & Rouletter tables but always in the machines.

We got $16.50 off our bill at checkout. Was better than nothing and a nice surprise as we didn't acutally expect to get anything off.
