For the 1st time, stay on the strip to feel the Vegas excitemewnt. Try Mirage, lately TI looks drab and not as nice as before. What happened to TI? Dont over plan just go with the flow of the city. Visit www.lasvegas.com for ideas. Visit the casinos, Forum shops, and maybe see a show. Enjoy

Mirage or MGM for best pool

TI or MonteCarlo for best value

Flamingo for bargain center strip, good pools

Luxor for south strip value in a mega-resort

If you can, go Sunday through Thursday. Usually cheaper and less crowded than Friday and Saturdays.

Definately stay on strip first time, and then maybe venture out your second time. If you go with the Mirage like the first two posters recommended, you almost center strip.

Just visiting the hotels around you will be an experience in itself.

The Wynn, The Venetian and the Canal shops, Caesars and the Forum shops, The Bellagio and her fountain, & Paris.

Depending on the length of your stay you could check out the hotels at the south end. MGM is the largest hotel on the strip. Excaliber and NYNY have great exteriors to snap pictures of. Luxor has one of the most impressive entrances.

Like the first poster said, check out Vegas.com for attractions, shows, and more.

Don't plan too much. Just experience the beauty that is Las Vegas.

...then start drinking and start gamblin'........lol

Definitely stay on the strip for your first trip. Everyone should visit downtown at least once at night. You may love it or hate it but you should experience it yourself- but you should not stay there the first time you visit. You want to be at a central location on the strip so you can see the various attractions most people think of when visiting Vegas.

I would choose the Mirage over the TI.

I would suggest staying on the strip. Mirage would be a great choice. Nice property. Good value. Good restaurants. Good location (Wynn, Venetian, and TI to the north, Caesars, the Forum Shops, Bellagio, and Paris to the south. ) The feeling I get is that Mirage is more laidback than TI, and TI is more of a party crowd. I have stayed at both hotels and I like both of them.

I would suggest also seeing the MGM, NYNY, and Mandalay on the south part of the strip.

You've received good advice. I totally agree with staying Center Strip . . . and Mirage is an excellent choice.

Before our first visit I purchased the Frommer's Travel Guide to Las Vegas and found it very helpful. Sometimes you just can't beat a good old-fashioned book . . . for one thing . . . you can read it on the airplane! . . . but also to earmark pages, make notes, highlight things you want to do, etc. Just keep in mind that things change so quickly in Vegas, that the book is slightly outdated by the time it gets off the press. Use it as a guide . . . but double check times, etc. on Web sites.

Another good site to visit . . . especially before a first trip, is lasvegas4newbies (dot com).

Have fun!

A few other websites - www.cheapovegas.com and www.a2zlasvegas.com.

Just remember to read everyones trip reports and restaurant and show reviews with a "grain of salt".

Enjoy!

First visit from UK in Nov 2006. Stayed at TI and cant wait to go back. Excellent location/service. Could not fault it. Get a players club card even if you only play the slots. Make sure you use the deuce bus. 24hours of strip travel for $5.
