Going to give Laughlin a vist!

My husband and I are regular Vegas travellers but got an air and comped room deal from Harrahs for the middle of February. I have been reading your forum and getting some good info. Hope you can help me with a few questions.

How far is the walk from Harrahs to the other group of hotels?

Is there duty free at the airport coming home?

What is the closest shopping to buy snacks and liquor for the room?

Thanks for your help. I am sure I will have a few more questions before we leave.

As you can see by my name, we love Vegas. We have also gone to Laughlin a few times now. We also enjoyed Laughlin but it is nothing like Vegas, just so you know. Harrahs is a long walk from the other hotels, up hill both ways. That said we did the walk there once or twice on each trip. Think most people staying at Harrahs get day passes for the water taxi. Didn't see any shops at airport, but wasn't looking. One of the Laughlin regulars will be a better source for the liquor question. Laughlin is very relaxed and quiet compared to Vegas:) Have a great time.

Thankis for the info Vegasjunky. I am glad to hear the hotel is at least within walking distance of the other hotels. I am sure I walk at least 5 miles a day in Vegas so shouldn't be a problem. Looking forward to the trip

No passes for the water taxi. It is $4.00 per person each way, or you can buy a pass for unlimited travel for the day. Honestly, I wouldn't purchase it in February. Hubby and I will also be there mid February. This will be our 5th trip there. Bear in mind that the water taxi in February usually only has one or two running which can make for a long wait.

The riverwalk doesn't go to Harrah's. Personally, I won't venture up/down the stairs or through the garage. Some aren't bothered by the walk...it's a personal decision. Most casinos don't have taxis outside, but it's easy enough to have the valet call for a taxi (although it it takes a few minutes), $8,00 later( from the Riverside, which is at the other end) we are home at Harrah's. Btw, Harrah's always has taxis parked outside.

When we go during September, the water taxi runs every few minutes, unlike February. We also go on a charter. Ours is through a group that is associated with Harrah's. Once we check our luggage with Allegiant, there's nothing left to do. They normally board and depart early (I found that out the hard way!). Once we get off the plane at Bullhead, the buses are waiting. No handling of luggage. It is delivered to the room. You receive an envelope upon arrival with a players card and a room key. They have water and soda waiting at the arrival point at the hotel.

They have a gift shop that closes at 10pm. They sell soda, snacks and a limited selection of alcohol. If you will have a rental car, I believe that your best bet would be to go across the river to Sam's club (if my memory is correct, the locals here suggest that).

Have a wonderful trip :-)

Vegas is for kids. Laughlin is for adults.

Thanks Sue, I think the taxi sounds really reasonable. I don't think we will be renting a car. Hubby sometimes likes to have his beer and clamato juice in the room but not a big deal. I looked at amenities and I don't think there is a fridge in the room either? What tower do they usually assign you to? We are travelling with allegiant booked through Harrahs.

Sounds like you have fallen in love with Laughlin. Is there anything you would really recommend that we do. We are looking forward to taking it all in.

More quantitatively, the distance from Harrah's to the closest casino (River Palms) is about a quarter mile (or half a kilometer in the quaint metric system). From River Palms to the most distant casino (Riverside), it's another couple of kilometers, with seven casinos and an outlet mall in between. Neither the distance nor the grade is much of a problem if you're in good health and have no mobility issues. Either can be a problem for folks who don't get around as well as they used to.

There's a Family Dollar store next to the outlet center that has a decent assortment of snack items, at prices that are fairly close to supermarket prices. Family Dollar doesn't sell alcohol, though. Across the street from Family Dollar, Terrible's sells alcohol. I don't know whether the prices are any better than the alcohol prices inside Harrah's.

This might give you a better idea of the distances to the various casinos. They're nowhere near as far apart as the properties in Vegas. If you're used to walking in Vegas you'll have no problems in Laughlin.
