help with hotel - Aquarius, Golden Nugget or Harrah's

I'm looking to book just the one night in Laughlin, en-route back from Arizona to LA.

According to tripadvisors ranking the top 3 rated hotels are 1. Aquarius, 2. Golden Nugget, and 3. Harrah's.

I know that sometimes you need to take the hotel reviews on here with a pinch of salt, would this top 3 be about accurate though. Would I be ok with any of these 3, or is the Aquarius the best by far, all the prices seem fairly similar, so I'm looking for the nicest hotel really.

And any that I should avoid?

Many thanks for any help

All three are indeed the best Laughlin has to offer, IMO. Harrahs is a nice hotel with nice rooms, though it is at the end of the strip - not walking distance for everybody. It's uphill both ways (really!). The Tropicana is centrally located - right in the middle of the strip. The rooms have floor to wall windows and they are nice rooms also with flat screen TVs. The Golden Nugget rooms are larger than the average and very comfortable, but watch out, your window view could be the parking structure! Really, you can't go wrong with any of these hotels. But as you are aware, some people write that these are the worst hotels ever and would never stay there again, and then the very next review gives it 5 out of 5 stars. Most reviewers though have given all three great ratings. IMO, I'd say Tropicana, Golden Nugget, and Harrah’s in that order. Stay away from the Pioneer. Please write back and let us know how your stay was. Viva Laughlin!

Thanks very much laughlinorbust,

Thanks for the tip about the Pioneer.

I will report back, but we're not going til May.

You mentioned the Tropicana, not Aquarius? Would you rate Tropicana above Aquarius then?

Oops - Sorry, even though I mentioned the Tropicana - I was talking about the Aquarius. The Tropicana is also a nice hotel with some refurbished rooms. It is on the 'dry' side of the strip (all the other casinos are next to the river).

Depends what you want in a hotel. The Nugget is quieter and smaller than the Aquarius. If you stay at the Nugget, ask for a courtyard room. The terrace rooms usually look at the parking garage. The Nugget is more traditional than the Aquarius. the Aquarius is more contemporary. Both have very nice rooms and you can always upgrade. My least favorite of the three is Harrah's. The rooms are more sparse than the other two. It is noisier, and is not walker friendly.

Aquarius and the Nugget have the nicest, most updated rooms in Laughlin. I prefer the casino at Aquarius.

Thanks for the replies. I'm leaning towards The Aquarius, reasonably priced rooms too!

If you check reviews and ask people, everyone has a different opinion. It depends on what level you are looking for. The secret to a great stay is to "ask and you shall receive". Call (in advance) of your trip and tell them what you are looking for in a stay. In our experience the Aquarius has been one of the most reliable places and is nicely centrally located to all the other Casino's, the Outlet Mall, etc..

I prefer the low-rise feel of the Nugget, but as mentioned the garage facing rooms sucked. Alarms and stupid MUZAC at odd hours. Inner courtyard rooms are great as you can open the large window. I had a top floor corner room in the Aquarius back when it was a Flamingo Hilton and it swayed when really windy. Can't put my finger on it but didn't love the Harrahs experience.
