laughlin vs las vegas

We have been to Vegas a few times & want to try something different this time. We are 4 adults in our 30's & 40's. Is there enough to do in Laughlin to keep us busy for 3 days? What is there to do at night time? We don't gamble a lot but we like all the other things to see/do in Vegas. We concerned we might get bored in Laughlin?

Your group is much much younger than the typical visitor to Laughlin. I always tell people that are visiting Laughlin for the first time that casinos are much busier at 10am in the morning than at 10pm at night when the casinos are all closer to empty, there is not much in the way of night life. I like Laughlin because it is laid back and offers cheaper choices for table games and I can stretch my gambling budget much further in Laughlin. If you are looking for a budget trip Laughlin is surely much cheaper in all areas than Vegas. While I typically make one trip a year to Laughlin my wife no longer accompanies as she likes the lights, shows, food and wonderful hotel rooms that Las Vegas offers and found Laughlin to be very boring. You will not see much glitz or glamour in Laughlin and If your group plans on staying more than 1 or 2 days some of you I am sure will find it boring. That's my take on it. Laughlin is Laughlin and Vegas is Vegas there is very little comparison between them. I think I may be one of the few that really likes them both.

We enjoyed it as a coupe in our 30s, but it is boring. Sometimes boring is what we need, and it is what you make of it if you are with friends. The flipside is you can get a CHEAP room, hang by the pool during the day, have a nice dinner and gamble as long as you feel like it. Cheap tables are to be found as well in case someone sucks at their chosen game. There is a surprising amount of decent food for a small place so for a short trip you can eat well. If you have never fed a carrot to a donkey that is also available with a bit of a drive.

You can google the Laughlin Entertainer....it is put out weekly and will list all the shows/activities at the various casinos for the week. The entertainment is nothing like Vegas, so you may well be bored. I enjoy Laughlin for a good part of my longer Nevada trips, but am a gambler. There are 2 movie theaters that I visit to catch up on movies that I haven't seen, and as mentioned, some very decent places to eat.

3 days in Laughlin without much gaming might be a stretch. However, there are always some shows going on at the Riverside, the Edgewater, even Harrah's. Two of the Casino's have lounges that usually fetaure a band (free) on weekends. Clubs are definitely not like Vegas but there are a few if you like that sort of thing. Outdoors is another appeal, the nice Greenway Trail, Davis Dam, the Colorado River, the Labyriths, and more. It all depends what your interests are. We love Vegas too, but coming back to Laughlin is always relaxing, fun, peaceful and nice.

Have to also say I respectfully disagree about the Casinos being busier in the morning rather than at night. Mornings do bring more of the locals, snowbirds, and an older crowd. Evenings are usually far busier, especially later in the week or on the weekends. A lot depends on which Casino you frequent, they all have different "crowds".

I am of the opinion everything is what you make of it. My daughter and son-in-law joined us for a few days and my stepdaughters came to Laughlin with us a few times. All under thirty! They loved the river walk, majorly inexpensive rooms, casino hopping, cinemas, bowling, lots of nice places to eat, are you hiring a car?
