Mar 30 - 4 Apr Trip Report

My two sons (both 14) and I just got back from a week at the Riverside and had a wonderful time. For those of you who don't know what to do or say there is nothing to do in Laughlin other than gamble, then I ask you to do a little research and see what's out there.

We always stay at the Riverside because for young kids, there is stuff to do. We bowled a couple of times, played pool, saw a movie, went to the arcade, saw both classic car museums, went on the USS Riverside boat tour, went swimming (cold!!!) - all at the Riverside. On our first night we went to the Avi and fired off a bunch of fireworks - lots of fun and it was great to see others firing off theirs too. We drove to Christmas Tree Pass and saw the Petroglyphs and did some rock climbing. We fished at Katherine's Landing (no luck) and some surrounding coves (also no luck!) Went to Oatman - had a donkey stick his head into our car, saw the gun fight and went to the Oatman Hotel and hung a dollar bill on the wall - if you don't know what I'm talking about - do some research :). One thing I wanted to do with them was to walk within the labyrinths. I'm not really sure how much they 'got' the labyrinths, but they were impressed on how intricate they were. Another thing I wanted to do with them is to walk along the Laughlin Heritage Greenway Trail. I enjoyed walking along the river and they enjoyed skipping rocks! One of my boys developed an ear infection so we went to an urgent care facility in Bullhead City and it looked at. As far as food goes - I can give you no useful information. Went to In N Out, McDs, Ihop, and the bowling alley snack bar at the Riverside - Love the burgers and nachos! Our room at the Riverside was very good. No problems and maid service was prompt. I'll go into greater detail when I review my room at the trip advisor hotel site. As has been my experience, my interactions with the casino staff, locals, and tourists was great! Viva Laughlin!

Love your trip report and that you shared (and experienced) many of the other non-gambling things to do in Laughlin.

That sounds like a combination of all of our trips. Ours is mostly no gambling with just enough to let them know we were there. Just relaxing with something new every time. That's our quest. Next on our list is the cars.

I did manage to do a little gambling - like 1/2 hour a day. They would play pool and I'd go downstairs. Play a little video poker and go back up stairs. Because I played for only 1/2 hour at a time, can't really comment on how tight the machines were, however, I am concerned with the amount of people commenting on their lack of winning. Over the past couple of years it seems that I win less. While I don't have any hard facts, I do think my 4 of a kinds are becoming less frequent. I could count on those to keep me going or even walk away from the machine and actually have something to cash in! My next trip is August so I'll see how it goes then.

Thanks for the nice report. Normally, I would say that Laughlin is not a good place to bring kids, but you found a lot of good stuff to do with the boys. I was in town at the tail end of your trip for the Blues and Brews. The music was great...and free.

I play video poker and hit many four of a kinds. I sure don't see any change. I brought home some of Laughlin's money this trip.

Great TR. Laughlin is a place for the older crowd, but we used to bring our kids with us a couple times a summer from the time they were toddlers till they were teens and always found plenty to enjoy.

Great TR, it's always good to read positive things. I have said before anywhere is what you make of it, we only do a little gambling on the machines in the evenings and haven't ever got bored in Laughlin although we are in our 50's lol!!

Great report from a different angle. I too have also enjoyed some of the non-gambling activities at the R.

So, did the boys hit any jackpots? (lol)

Sounds like the boys had a great trip! You sure did a lot in a few days. We were at Harrah's the end of March and played quite a bit. We didn't notice a big drop in wins. Husband did not have too many wins but I won quite a bit so it kind of evened out. Did they do any shopping at the mall?

Horsegramma - No, we didn't make it to the mall. I don't think the mall would hold too much attention to two 14 year old boys. Now if they were at home with friends, then they could stay for hours at the mall!!
