RENO casino's any run down on these casinos from a pro?

Hi we will be spending 2 nights in RENO, first week of August. We will be on a tour, so have absolutely no idea where we will be staying. How many big Casinos will we find there. Never been there, always a Vegas Vacation for us. so Will this be kind of the same type of casino or something not as big.

Are there the slot machines with the 5 lines and dual action types or is this like the slots found in the older hotel casinos.

Can you give us a recommendation on where to start.

are the hotel casinos closer together than in Vegas.

We want to try and get some info now so that when we get there, we don't waste time walking around trying to figure out the lay of the land

thanks for your help

I would recommend the following:

In downtown Reno - El Dorado, Silver Legacy and the Harrah's. The El Dorado and Silver Legacy are connected (also with the Circus Circus) and the Harrah's is a block down the road.

Outside Downtown Reno - I would recommend you visit the Peppermill, Atlantis, Grand Sierra and the Nugget (Sparks). All of those you need to drive to or take a cab. Peppermill to the Atlantis, you could walk. In a lot of places, you can see them from afar, its a short cab ride to get to each from where ever in Reno.

Casino/Hotels in Reno are I think much smaller than Vegas. The above mentioned Casinos keep up with new machines, games and so on ....(There are other older casino's with probably older slot machines).... I am not a slot machine kind of gambler so I can't give you any specifics but they should be good enough.

You can really hit all of them in one day.

Also in downtown there is CalNeva and Fitzgerald's. The Sands is about a 4 block walk from Eldorado.

A brisk walk from CalNeva across the Truckee River is Siena Casino and Spa.

Though not bad,and sometimes very good, entertainment in Reno cannot compete with Las Vegas.

Reno is much more affordable. There are no porn slappers in Reno!

There are tours to Virginia City and Lake Tahoe.

Reno is a good deal (Are you listening, Harrahs?).

Everyone pretty much nailed what you can expect in Reno, the entertainment is not Cirque shows but it is top name headliners, and a few production shows here and there. Much smaller casinos than in Vegas too. Its a great city to visit, I hope you enjoy it. Expect a mini Las Vegas.
