Information on the Thunderbird Resort Club

My wife and I are starting to plan our next summer vacation and are looking into the Reno-Tahoe area. I have came across the Thunderbird Resort Club at 200 Nichols Boulevard in Sparks. They do have great pictures on thier web site, but I can not find anything on TA about them.

I would appreciate any information on the Thunderbird Resort and the area it is located in.

Thank you for your help!

Here is some general information about the resort:

The Thunderbird Resort Club features one- and two-bedroom suites.

Each suite is completely furnished with a full cooking facilities, a color television and luxury appointments throughout. Our one bedroom suites feature private balcony or patio, full cooking facilities, and air conditioning.

Our two bedroom suites feature private balconies, a master bedroom with a private bath, air conditioning, full cooking facilities, and a fireplace. Bathrooms are luxuriously finished with marble counter tops and sink basins.

The hot tub is available for year-round use and is a wonderful way to relax.

The Thunderbird Resort Club is in an older area of Sparks and is conveniently located next to Interstate 80. There are many dining options close by and the Legends shopping mall is about a five minute drive away.

I would not recommend this resort to anyone. My wife and I just got back from there. We made an exchange through Interval International. It is an old converted apartment complex. Checking in was a nightmare. There are no people at the front desk. You get to talk to a video screen and on the telephone. We arrived at 1:00pm and didn't get checked in until after 5:00pm. It was an ordeal. There is no customer service or human contact except for the concierge who was off on Monday and Tuesday and the office was closed. The resort exterior is old and in need of repair. The bedroom advertises to have a queen size bed but is appeared to only be a double. The bathroom is small and has the old fashion type of commode (not elongated). There is a shortage of electrical outlets in the living room, dining room and kitchen area which are all in one room. The location is good and easy to get to other places. There are also a number of good restaurants close to the resort.

I would not recommend this resort to anyone. I wanted to surprise my father and his new wife that came to visit from Venezuela with a nice week getaway. I made an exchange through Interval International because I wanted them to see Reno and the surrounding areas.... Well this "resort" is nothing more than an old apartment complex revamped and furnished with OLD uncomfortable furniture. The beds were very uncomfortable almost to the point that you rather sleep on the floor. Forget about the pullout sofa!!! There are no people at the front desk.... it is all virtual which is very very frustrating. Our phone line never worked our entire stay even though they said they would send somebody to fix it...they never came...I guess i was expecting a virtual person to fix it..... The air conditioning was not working properly (hot upstairs and freezing downstairs). There is no customer service or human contact which I found that to be odd. Our view from our room was the wall from one of the apartments so I requested a room facing the pool courtyard. They said they were full but the entire time we were there, the parking lot was empty and i saw about 15 other guests during the entire week. It was obvious that the "resort" was empty. They had an ice cream social and they were so cheap that they ran out of ice cream for the guests (maybe 10 showed up) The only thing i can say is that the location is good and easy to get to other places so we enjoyed Reno, Virginia City and South Lake Tahoe.... but the "resort" was by far one of my worst nightmare..... Do yourself a favor DON'T STAY HERE!!

Jessica - did you stay at this resort? Was it bad? I am contemplating booking here, but cannot find much about it.

We found the Thunderbird Resort to be a homey retreat close to all the action in Reno and Sparks. Our room was clean and comfortable, and we enjoyed walking through the central courtyard with its tall trees and lush grass. Must commend the staff as exceptionally friendly and accommodating. They cheerfully hosted complimentary breakfasts and other socials everyday except on Sunday. We also used the computer room, putting green, and free DVD rentals.

We strolled around the Sparks Marina, ate at BJs Brewery, Fuddruckers, Jazz and Popeye’s restaurants, walked the mall, and rode the 45’ ferris wheel in Scheels sporting goods store, all at Legends. Dined in the cafes at the Nugget, Rail City, and Cal-Neva casinos. Caught the Nevada Museum of Art, the collection of artifacts at the Silver Legacy Casino, and two IMAX shows at the University of Nevada Planetarium. We didn‘t get up enough nerve to stroll the Riverwalk downtown, but dared travel 30+ desolate miles north to view beautiful Pyramid Lake.

We stayed in the resort for a week in a 2-bedroom unit. Very spacious place but highly outdated. Furniture have a feel of Kmart of the 80-ties. The construction materials are the cheapest possible, workmanship also leaves a lot to be desired. But everything was functional (except unusable WiFi). I agree that the bed in the master bedroom is neither queen size nor comfortable. On the plus side we had full utility from the kitchen and grounds are decently landscaped. The unit was very clean and its carpet (though tacky) as if in a new condition. The location is good too and the staff was very nice. Considering how little I paid for it I am not complaining.
