Hotel near downtown casinos

Tripadvisor members,

The wife and I plan on being in Reno for the first time in July. Can you recommend a nice place to stay downtown, within walking distance to the casinos and restaurants.

Thanks in advance.

The best downtown hotels also have casinos. And the main 3 are interconnected, with The Silver Legacy in the middle. My personal favorite is the Eldorado, if you can afford an upgrade. If not, SL would be 2nd choice. E has the best restaurants. Circus-Circus is on the other end, with Harrah's being just a block away.

But, if you want the best in town, it's the Peppermill, 2.5 miles south. 2nd best Atlantis another 1/4 mile south.

I hope you're taking a day trip to Lake Tahoe. Catch an Aces ballgame. Outstanding venue, and just 2 blocks from the E. Walk down to and along the Truckee River.

Agree with wolf. Adding that the stand alone hotels/motels in Reno leave a lot to be desired. Casino/hotel combos are the nicest overall accommodations.

The Siena has new owners that have poured a lot of money into the place. They call themselve a boutique-style hotel with upgraded amenities. It is located on the Truckee River and a block from Harrah's.

Another vote for El Dorado, followed by Silver Legacy, Circus Circus and Harrahs. I say Harrahs only because it's across the street and not connected to the other 3 which makes it easy to explore and casino hop.

I'll add another vote for Eldorado/Silver Legacy/Circus Circus. Or Harrah's, since it's in the same general area. The Siena is very nice, but it's a block off of "the strip" (Virginia Street) and on the opposite side of the river from the other downtown casinos.

Dare I add it is a little dicey walking from the main 3 back to the Siena late at night? Once you pass the CalNeva(which is kind of a dive in itself), it's quite dark, and nothing is open. I'm 6-2, 240, and I didn't feel very secure.

We'll be staying in Eldorado next month, great location, but the prices are even better - if you can stay weeknights they offer special on their website, something like $33 a night.
