My husband and I will be staying in Boston for a week. We are thinking of a day trip to Martha's Vineyard. Is that a good idea ? Open to suggestions ..... :)
Jen - it is a good idea but you should post this question in the Mass forum.
Yes, post to the Boston Forum. But I can give you a bit of feedback. One is to avoid the weekend. The roads down on friday and back up on Sunday are intensely crowded with everyone going to the cape.
The other is that it is probably an hour and a half or more, maybe 2.5 hours, to drive down to the ferry from Boston. And you need to have a reservation and arrive before the ferry to be sure you get on. So, you are investing at least 4 to 5 hours of your day just in driving. The better idea might be to drive down to The Cape, spend a night in Falmouth, or just off the Cape in Wareham or another nearby locale. Then get an early ferry from Woods Hole the next morning, spend the day, and just have the drive back to Boston that evening. Or stay two nights on/near the Cape.
No ferry reservation is needed unless taking car in summer which is not recommended anyway. Before posting please search the Martha's vineyard forum as this is not a new question.
