NJ/ NY Transportation

Hi, I'll be staying at the Ramada Inn in Jersey City in a few weeks. I'm from the California and have absolutely no idea how to use the NJ/NY public transportation. What's the easiest way to get from Jersey City to Times Square?

Wouldn't it have made more sense to ask this question before making your reservation?

You're talking about the Ramada at 65 Tonnelle Ave?

Anyway, the answer is to get to the Journal Square PATH station which is about a 6 minute walk and then take the PATH train into NYC (PATH is a subway that goes between NJ and NYC and is totally different than the NYC subway system the the stations of one are typically very close to the other)

Map to Journal Square: http://tinyurl.com/kg2qpep

PATH system map: http://www.panynj.gov/path/maps.html

To get to Times Square take PATH to 33rd street and then it's an easy 9 short block walk to the start of the Times Square area on 42nd street (an easy 10 minute walk).

the PATH Stations are also very convenient to NYC subway connections

Now, I have to say that the Journal Square area is not the most appetizing area to stay but as long as you know that you'll be ok and it gets good reviews tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Review-g46531-d247805-…

Another option is to walk to Journal Square (it's a big transportation hub, so they have both buses and trains there) from your hotel. Once there, board the #125 bus to Port Authority. It will drop you off at around 42nd and 8th Ave in NYC. From there, you're practically in Times Square already. The bus is going to be a little more expensive than the train, but less walking involved. Good luck!

Shadow made a good suggestion for getting to TS vs other areas in NYC. Even during rush hour into the city I would do that in order to get to TS. Coming back, though, if between say 5:00 and 7:00 i'm not so sure. It can be real zoo at the Port Authority during the afternoon rush and I'd rather go the extra distance to take PATH but I think Shadow can comment on whether I'm right or wrong.

Shadow: I have one other question, re the walk from JSQ to the hotel, how is it late at night in case the OP is coming back from a show and hits JSQ around midnight? When I lived in JC 20 years ago, not far from JSQ, i would not have wanted to make that walk late a night
