Hyatt Regency

Hi!! We're considering staying at the Hyatt Regency for 4-5 near the 4th of July. I'm guessing we would be able to see fireworks at that location? Also is it going to be a problem to get ferry and/or train service into the city on the 4th or the weekend? Thanks for your advice!! :)

I think the Hyatt would be your best bet from the NJ side. Last year, the fireworks were launched from the Hudson river (between Manhattan and NJ). This year, they are moving it back to the East River (between Manhattan and Brooklyn). They will be launched from the area near the Brooklyn Bridge, so the Hyatt Regency should still be a favorable spot to view it from.

Regarding ferry and train service, the PATH trains will run on holiday (weekend) schedule. http://www.panynj.gov/path/maps.html.

One thing to watch out for is there is no direct service between Exchange Place (the subway station adjacent to the Hyatt) and NYC on the weekends. This is due to repair work being done on the tracks. You can still get to NYC, but it will take you a little longer than normal (you would have to take the subway to Grove Street, change trains to go to Hoboken, and then connect to NYC). Alternatively you could just walk to the Grove Street station from the hotel - it's only a 10 min walk.

Really? I would have thought not -- wouldn't they be on the other side of Manhattan?

The fireworks go up pretty high. You can see it from the JC side of the Hudson river. Watching them from Brooklyn would be ideal, but if you are inside the hotel facing the water, that would be ok too
