EWR Layover just got longer...

Thank you... United.

I'm learning very quickly ALB (Albany NY) is not a destination airport.

I originally had a 4 hour EWR layover on my flight from CDG to ALB.

Not ideal but tolerable at the end of a long day starting at 1PM in Paris.

Now my 4 hour layover has been rescheduled to 6 hours.

I have some concerns and would like some advice before contacting UA.

First,

Is the 6 hour layover so long,,,

that I may have to control my own luggage and then recheck it thru security?

Second,

What can I do at the airport? I assume I will eat but are there other things to do?

I do have UA Lounge passes but reviews have not been stellar.

Third, By my calculations leaving Paris at 1PM means I will be arriving EWR 10PM (Paris time).

And not leaving until 4 AM next day (Paris time). Clearly I'm going to be exhausted...

Any suggestions??? Sleep area? What has worked for others?

****

BTW I'm traveling late Sept to early Oct .

My outgoing ALB flight has also already been changed thus my ALB comment.

Heck, I'm worried my EWR might even be rescheduled again in the next 2 months.

From what I see UA knows the ALB flights are lightly traveled.

Offer 2 flights but have no intention of keeping both.

Then they simply combine flights using the later flights time.

yes, thats exactly what they do, make two flights and fly one (assuming they dont have a full plane coming from albany

You dont have many good options except so-so lounges... you can always drive to albany

I considered driving but it would be 3 to 4 hours with commuter traffic... and me tired from the flight. Probably not a good situation. Are there restaurants, shopping, exhibits at the airport we might find worthwhile?? Is there only 1 UA club lounge? I was thinking there might be a 'partner' lounge as well??? Having both ALB flights rescheduled WILL definitely influence who I chose to fly with next time! Although I've know for awhile ALB is a fringe airport with difficult connections other than flying North/South to Florida.

not sure about the lounges

you could use this as a guide travelnerd.com/airports/…lounges

shopping you;d be better off taking a shuttle to Jersey gardens IMHO

Sure hope I am in Terminal C. Seems to have more of everything... especially restaurants.

BTW

No one has commented so I will ask again. Since my layover is now 6 hours will I have to claim and then re-check my luggage coming from Paris? Or will the bags stay checked? The 6 hour time issue and the international aspect have me concerned.

Is that because of the international flight or the six hour layover?

Check to see if they will give you vouchers for a meal, and if you're in C this place isn't bad ---> http://le-grandcomptoir.com/
