Check to see if your hotel has a shuttle service to and from the Secaucus Junction Train Station. If it does then take the AirTrain to NJ Transit Airport Station...from there a NJ Transit train to Secaucus Junction.
If they don't provide a shuttle then a taxi to your hotel.
I would not bother with public transportation unless you enjoy schlepping with 5 people.
All you have to do is compare cost of NJ Transit fares from EWR to Secaucus Junction.
$ 8.50 child 12+ / senior
Is the purpose of your visit to see NYC? If so I hope you know that you will have to use NJ Transit busses to get there and that it till cost you $8.50/round trip per adult or kids 12 and over
Here is the fare chart -- you are zone 3 njtransit.com/pdf/sf_bu_fare_NewYorkCity.pdf
BTW, here's a map of where your hotel is http://www.harmonmeadow.com/map/HMmap.pdfEdited: 17 February 2014, 20:19
I forgot to mention that kids under 12 travel free on weekends with a paying adult
Yes we plan to on seeing NYC . My kids are 7,13,17 . So the 7 will be free? I saw some where that a taxi ride is around 30 for up to 4 ppl. So I'm guessing 5 might be 50 for airport to Hyatt in seacaucus. Has anyone seen that? Sounds like around 10.00 a person . Would that be cheaper that the air train to junction or other ways.
The 7 year old will be free on weekends and pays 1.90 weekdays.
So your round trip bus costs on a weekend will be 8.50 round trip (2 one way tickets) x 4 = $34.
IMPORTANT: when boarding in NJ tell the driver you want round trip tickets (2 one-ways). Drivers in NJ accept cash and make change (as long as they have it) but DO NOT accept cash when boarding in NYC so you will want to have that ticket in your hands to avoid having to buy tickets in NYC.
Now, I assume you've picked this hotel because it's cheaper than the alternatives but perhaps you did not factor this in, nor the inconvenience of having to take the bus. It is very possible to stay in Secaucus and take the bus in, many people do it (I'm sure you've read the reviews of your hotel, most of which probabaly comment on this), but just make sure you've done all your homework and understand the costs. Also understand that it is not realistic to go into the city, come back in the afternoon to rest up, then head back in for dinner and a show. Doing so would put you squarely in the middle of rush hour.
There are other NJ hotels that are much more convenient, albeit they may be more expensive. Hotels located next to a PATH subway avoid having to take the bus. Why don't you post your exact dates of travel and budget on the NYC forum and mention that you're a family of 5 flying into Newark (I assume you already have your tickets???? If not say so as that can make a big difference)
I'm with Li K in that I would not even attempt getting to Secuaucus on public transit with a large family. I would just take a taxi and tell the dispatcher that you need a mini-van. The fare should be around $55 + tolls in both directtions (around 6-7, I think)Edited: 18 February 2014, 14:10
Yes i did book for the price and it will accommodate my family of 5.i tried other hotels and they wanted me to book 2 rooms. My dates are June 5-12 im flying over night leaving lax at 11:30pm and getting in at 7:55 am to Newark.and tix are bought already atleast to get there.is the path train free
One other thing, you should consider taking your kids to see the National Comedy Theater. They do clean stand up and though I haven't been myself they get great reviews and are moderately priced

You get into Newark pretty early, I hope your room will be ready. It only takes about 20 min to get from EWR to Secaucus by car. If it's not ready, I suggest leaving your bags at the hotel and getting some breakfast somewhere at the large, outdoor mall that your hotel is a part of
