Restaurants and wineries normally open as usual at Easter?

We are planning to be in Franschhoek for 3 nights starting on Easter Saturday. Will restaurants and wineries be open as usual? Any wineries open on a Sunday? What about the shops etc. in Stellenbosch on Sundays especially Easter Sunday?

Hi mw104, Franschhoek is fully open over Easter although some wineries do not open on Sundays (or have shorter working hours than on other days). As Easter is usually pretty busy you should consider booking restaurants in advance. Glad you are coming to enjoy our beautiful valley.

Thanks Bernie - I'm looking at restarants now - what are your current favourites? Last time we ate at the Tasting Room at Le QF, Reubins and Dieu Donne (lunch). There just seems to be too many good restaurants and we can't eat at them all.

Current favorites in the village with our guests are Le Bon Vivant, Ryan's Kitchen and Cafe Bon Bon

Just a few minutes out of the village I would also look at the new Pierneef Restaurant at La Motte. A modern take on traditional Cape Country cooking in a beautiful new restaurant - la-motte.com/Restaurant.cfm…

As you go towards Stellenbosch then a whole range of new and newly-developed restaurants. My current favourite is Richard Carstens new restaurant at Tokara - http://www.tokararestaurant.co.za/index.html There is a second, more informal restaurant on the same estate. Also look right across the road at the two restaurantson the sumptuous new Delaire Graaf Estate - http://www.delaire.co.za/dining.html

Agree with VdeC about Pierneef Restaurant at La Motte. Wonderful cuisine in a beautiful setting. The menu includes a number of traditonal Afrikaans dishes which is not so common these days and well worth sampling.
