January night time drop?

There are lots of weather charts showing the January temperatures between 15-30oC. Is this including the night time temperature? Will morning and evenings be cool?

Weather Underground is the best site for looking at past reality rather than general "averages". You can look day by day, month by month and year by year.

Here is the link to Skukuza (the nearest full weather station to Sabi Sand) for January 2011.

wunderground.com/history/…

This shows that the Average Daily Maximum Temp was 31C and the Average Daily Minimum was 21C. The Max, Max was 36C and the Min,Min was 18C. It was mixed sun anmd overcast every day except one. There was a total of 94.8mm of rain. However, amazingly, exactly half this rain fell on ONE day - New Year's Day. 47mm (nearly 2 inches). Glad I wasn't there then!

You can look back any day or any month over the past 15 years.

And to add some context to that, January is summer.. and the hottest part of the day would normally be mid-afternoon. You can really enjoy the pool around then. The PM game drive will leave the camp while it is still very warm, but you can expect the temperature to drop enough before you get back to camp after dark that you may want some long sleeves for the last part of the game drive.

Doggles, January in the Sabi Sand Game Reserve is HOT, and mornings and evenings will not be cold. A bit cooler than daytime, but still a good 20 degrees C at night. In the daytime, on hot sunny days you can expect temperatures above 30 degrees C, even above 40 degrees on some days (well over 100 F). to be on the safe side, take at least one pair of long pants and one light jacket, jersey or windbreaker in case you have an unexpected cooler morning. But 99% of the time it will be shorts and t-shirt weather.
