This forum is a ghost town! Come on!!

I know that many of you South African safari experts think that Krueger (or Botswana) are the only way to go for the "real safari experience", but there are many out there that do not want to take malaria medication. It seems that most of the people that visit Madikwe love it, however they don't vist the forum after they write their hotel reviews. Is there not a knowledgable person out there that can check this forum once a week with some positive input and information on Madikwe?

I think this thread needs to be stopped. It has come down to flame wars between Coastin and Craig and nothing constructive is being accomplished. Both of you should stop and move on.

Craig, yes you were one of the 'many others' I mentioned whose posts I read with interest and I repeat, everyone. including agents have every right to make contributions on this forum as long as they stick to the rules.

Again, with respect, I take issue on the claim that agents can offer a better rate. I fully accept that whilst I am pretty familiar with booking and travelling independently there are many who are not comfortable doing so, good agents then offer invaluable services. I know that agents get discounts from accommodation providers because of their group bookings and that they are a 'business' and have to make their profit, I have no problem with that, just as any business has to make a profit. As a prospective client my interest is the 'bottom line' what price an agent will offer ME.

Being mercenary I am always willing to listen to offers to get the best deal, which is why, on this occasion I approached 4 different agents who post on this forum and who claimed agents offer the best rates (I was not solicited, I simply decided to ask them). The results were clear, I got by far the best deal booking direct. Simple as that.

Everyone has an opinion and I am sure there are many occasions when others disagree with my opinion, it would be a boring old world if we all agreed all of the time, but as long as it is done honestly and politely then that is what this forum is all about.

Hi Somerstel,

Thanks for the opinion – I cannot dispute your practical experience with the rates. I am sure you can get better rates from many lodges, especially at the 4 star and below level, if you contact them. This is especially true in this economy.

Are you living in Somerset East or West?

Craig

You are not the first to make this mistake - I live in Somerset, England - although we do stay in Somerset West SA every year!
