Is July a good month to travel to the Okavango?

We have a quote for travelling to Botswana, arriving 24 July, visiting the three Orient Express camps before ending the trip at Victoria Falls. What are the pros and cons of visiting then, as opposed to later (late August to end September, say)?

really july, august, september are all fabulous times to go. that is why they are high season for price and bookings.

july pros vs aug/sep - there will be more water around in july as the delta begins "drying up" or contracting in later june. it will be cooler in july. in fact, early july will be about 5c in the morning.

july cons - not really any. their will be an every so slight amount of extra foiliage impeding sight lines. this is insignificant.

august - same as july

september pros - no kids around if that means something to you.

september cons - water over victoria falls will be none to minimal on zambia side. you must go to zimbabwe so see the water flowing.

jul/aug/sep vs june - rates at Orient Express go up 20% on july 1 as they go from shoulder season to high season that day. obviously there is no step increase in game viewing. the last week of june is a better value vs the first week of july for this reason.

Thank you, Craig, that was a comprehensive answer - although I don't think I'll bother going to Zimbabwe even if the Falls look better there!

All the best

July is a good time to go when the days are nice and warm. September is also a good time but the days are getting hotter.

Thankyou for your information. We are spending two weeks in Namibia and then Botswana in July.Clearly it's pretty chilly morning and night. What is the general day temperature please? Also - how bad are the flies - bad enough to take a fly veil?

Many thanks. Sally
