3 nights in duchess county

Hello, we (couple in 30's and parents aged 80) live in NYC and are planning to visit the area for 3 nights during July 4 weekend. We are going to be based at Kingston and are looking for suggestions for things to do in the area.

Are there 4th of July fireworks in the area?

Any suggestions for places// parks to trek?

Restaurants?

Other activities?

Thanks for your help!

Kingston has a nice waterfront area and historic district - both are worth strolling around in.

Saugerties is a pleasant nearby town with a pretty lighthouse you can visit and good restaurants.

Kaaterskill Falls (highest tiered in NY) is a short, slightly rugged hike but well worth it.

Minnewaska state park and Sam's Ponit preserve (south of New Paltz) are great stops.

Many people like Woodstock (me excluded). Opus 40 sculpture park is nearby if that interests you.

Rhinebeck is a pretty town across from Kingston worth exploring (also good restaurants).

Hyde Park and the mansions there are beautiful and interesting; there are many other mansions sprinkled around the area.

Hudson is great if you are into antiques.

Have fun!
