Day trip to falls

We are going to do a day trip from NYC to Niagara Falls (Via BUF) and were wondering if any of the organised tours come recommended. Would we be better off getting our own way to the falls and looking around ourselves. Is it a big area to walk around? We will be spending about 5 hours there. thanks.

There are a few organized tours on the Canadian side. Not much to do on the American side.

We have the cave of the winds walk down the Niagara Gorge. The maid of the mist boat ride into the falls area of the river. There is an observation are within the Niagara Park. A casino called Seneca Niagara Casino.

The most beautiful sights of the falls is from the Canadian side. They light up the falls at night with different colors also.

About 20 minutes from the falls is the actual city of NIagara Falls, where there is an outlet mall with over 150 stores.

Our side of the falls is pretty boring. Oh, and i just remembered there is a gorge climbing trail also.
